Making the world a brighter
place, one great dog at a time!
The Origins of Sunshine Goldens

Most of our dogs are rescued from kill shelters by our partners in the South.  We work
with the Baldwin County Humane Society in Fairhope, Alabama to rescue and
rehabilitate our Goldens.  Our Goldens are transported by ground to the Northeast
after they have been checked out by a vet and deemed safe to travel.  There are
THOUSANDS of wonderful Goldens and Golden mixes being put down every day in
Southern shelters due to lack of education about dog ownership; overpopulation; and
general neglect.  These loving and faithful dogs did nothing to deserve such a fate.  We
have created a network of Golden Retriever lovers who work tirelessly at locating,
evaluating, and providing medical care for these Goldens who would otherwise be
ignored or destroyed.
While we recognize there are some groups who oppose
“importing” dogs from other regions to the Northeast, we feel strongly that a
Golden in need, is a Golden worth saving – geography is merely another obstacle
along the road to salvation for these dogs.
We stand behind our adoptions and
require every Golden we place to be brought back to our rescue should the adopters
no longer be able to care for them.

All dogs receive proper vet care before being placed into homes.  Each dog is spayed
or neutered, brought up to date on vaccinations, treated for any obvious medical
issues, and started on heartworm prevention.  Adopters will be provided a full
disclosure of any and all medical issues that were identified by our vets.  Our vets do
the best they can to identify, treat, and prevent health issues.  We cannot, however,
guarantee that future health issues will not arise.  These dogs are the products of less
than perfect homes.  They received minimal, if any, vet care in their former lives and
often were not put on preventative medications.  Adopters are required to bring their
new dog to a vet within seven (7) days of adoption.  If any medical issues are identified
at that time which an adopter is not equipped or willing to treat, we will bring the dog
back into rescue.  Following those seven (7) days adopters assume the responsibility
of any and all future medical issues and associated costs.  We also request that all dogs
adopted remain on heartworm prevention for 12 months to ensure complete protection
against heartworm disease.
