Danny - Adoption Pending!
KARLA'S KIDS
On Christmas Day, Miss Karla collapsed in her yard and passed away in her neighbor's arms. Miss Karla lived in a rural, swampy area of Louisiana. Her home was surrounded by wetlands, marshes, bayous, pampas grass, and alligators. She had no children, was not married, and her brother wanted no part of the 20+ dogs she left behind. SGRR took in 6 dogs from this rescue endeavor. These sweet souls are Goldens, Golden mixes, Bassett Hounds, Dachshunds, and combinations of all the aforementioned. They range in ages from 1 to 8 years. We have named them Jesse, Gus, Pam, Jeffrey, Martha, and Danny.

Danny is a Golden Retriever mix who is estimated to be about 5 years-old. He is the cutest boy who you just want to throw your arms around and give a big hug! He looks so much like a cuddly teddy bear!
Danny is thought to have been Karla's special boy. When the rescue crew from the shelter was about to call it a day and lock up the house, they heard a muffled snoring sound and found Danny fast asleep, nested in a pile of Karla's clothing. The shelter director wrote, "This fella has watched over his owner for the last time. He has guarded over her as his only mission, as any best friend would...
Somehow I PRAY Ms Karla knows...HE IS SAFE...GOD IS GOOD ! Miracles!"
When he first arrived at our rescue, Danny had a difficult time and it seemed he was deeply mourning the loss of his mom. He would curl up in a corner and face the wall, not wanting anything to do with anyone, not even the other dogs. He has since started to relax and is coming around now. Of course the cheeseburgers that our Lisa is taking to the dogs have his tail wagging and Danny and Lisa are becoming good buddies. Lisa said that although Danny is still reserved, he is like a different dog than the one that originally arrived at our rescue.
Danny is good with other mild-mannered large dogs, but he is not a fan of small, noisy dogs who act bossy. He was fine when he met the cat at the vet's office. Danny takes treats very gently from your hand and his tail wags when he knows he's going to get some goodies. It's good that Danny is interested in food now because he is at least 15 lbs underweight at 44 lbs. While leash walking is not something that occurred in Danny's former life, Danny is learning leash skills from our trainer, Mary Jane, and he walks fairly nicely on a harness now. We would prefer a physically fenced yard for Danny, but will consider leash walking for him.
Danny has been neutered, brought up-to-date on vaccinations, and is micro-chipped. Because his's former owner did not have him on heartworm prevention, he tested positive for heartworm and is currently under treatment. He should be ready to be adopted in early-to-mid-March. When Danny arrives at his new home, it will take him a bit of time to settle in and unpack his baggage, but once he does, we anticipate he will form a wonderful bond with his new humans.
If your specialty is TLC and you are approved to adopt through SGRR, contact Donna to be considered to adopt this teddy bear of a boy. If not yet approved, please fill out an application to be considered.
Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to take on whatever comes with the dog. It is up to YOU to continue the rehabilitation we have begun. This is what it means to rescue.
