Happy Tails 2021!
Trey
Happily Adopted!
He is adorable but not well behaved yet! Trey, now Peanut, keeps peeing in the house. No matter how long I take him out. He has been out a lot. Walks. In the yard. Then comes in and urinates. And he has spent a good part of the day out with me. I keep taking him out to prevent it but it does not seem to matter. I am not sure how to read the cues. Or if there is something else going on. Thanks for any advice. I know there are transitional growing pains, but this seems really excessive. Less peeing but still some despite walks frequently and being out with me in the yard. And he is a first class counter surfer. Big problem as he eats cat food which I had put up there so he could not get it! Shoes are fun toys apparently. Despite an abundance of other toys which he also enjoys. The joys of being a young dog!!! But he is adapting really well to me and seems completely at home. And I love him! He is delightful and sweet and a total mush! I just need to get him beyond this. He is adorable and already such an important member of the family. Live and Learn! ~ Kathryn

Honey
Happily Adopted!
Honey's an absolutely awesome dog, just what I was hoping for; loving, sweet, submissive, eager to please, and smart. She is doing a great job alerting me when she needs to go outside to go to the toilet and is picking up on the general concepts of following my lead and loose lead healing, though of course her execution still leaves much to be desired. We'll be working on that in my backyard for the immediate future! Though not a big fan of being crated with the door shut, she still accepts it without complaint when I shower or have to go to an appointment. At night, she alternates between cushy dog bed and the opened crate. She's making an uneventful transition onto regular adult dog food, loves her Greenies, and readily drinks the added Healthy Mouth water supplement (to prevent tartar) without seeming to notice the difference between that and the other plain water in the bowl next to it. I plan to introduce her to teeth brushing tonight! She allows me to touch her all over and even to wipe off her feet, though it's clear she's not used to having them handled much. Still, with some time and positive reinforcement training, I fully anticipate being able to cut her nails myself, as I have done with all my other dogs.Though she seemed very nervous at the vet's office (we'll need to do lots of desensitization work around that!!!), she still charmed the vet and vet techs. She even won over my "I only really like little dogs" older sister! Though mostly calm, there's still a lot of puppy left, as one would expect in a 4 year old retriever. It's fun watching her occasional bouts of exuberance! I can't wait until I can let her actually run and do zoomies in the yard. When she starts doing something undesirable (eg: chewing on her dog bed) it's very easy to redirect her onto a rope chew or antler. She seems so eager to please and be loved. Honey saw my vet yesterday morning. He was pleasantly surprised to have Honey's past veterinary history in addition to Sunshine's records. Other than having overly long nails, she got a completely clean bill of health. She tested negative for Lyme and got her initial Lyme vaccine shot and a nail trim; we'll return in 3 weeks for another nail trim, the Lyme booster and a Lepto vaccination. I purchased a year's worth of Heartguard and will start her on that and Advantix in January. ( Advantix is highly effective against the ticks in this area.) My vet seconded all the post Heartworm treatment activity information and precautions included in your instructional materials. I'll continue to keep you updated on her progress. Thanks again to all of you at Sunshine for choosing me to adopt Honey! ~ Barbara

Hunter
Happily Adopted!
He's been here since 3 pm. We're changing his name to Otto (the name of the Syracuse mascot). We weren't certain about the name until Deb took him out of the car with an orange leash...seemed like a sign. He's settling in. Zoomed around the backyard. Scoped out the house. Ate dinner. Thanks for checking in. Feels like a great match! ~ Nancy and Fred

Loki
Happily Adopted!
She's a very sweet and friendly dog who loves everybody. She's perfect when I am here, which I am most all the time. I'm working on a few things - mainly the separation problem. She had an accident in my bedroom when I left her and she's difficult on the leash because she keeps walking back and forth in
front of me and then behind. She responds very well to going back to her bed when she is constantly wanting more attention. As long as someone will pet her she will stay. She will leave the kitchen by my just motioning her away and saying "go" and lie on her bed. Everybody that meets her loves her.
I love her. ~ Joan

Happily Adopted!
She's good so far! Car ride home was uneventful and we got some exploring done around the house on a leash. The cats have been staring intently but she's not interested in them which is a good start! 🙄 Thanks again for everything! ~ Daniel & Amy

Allie
Happily Adopted!
Our sweet Allie girl is doing fantastic and we already love her to pieces. She was definitely a bit nervous yesterday and was panting all afternoon but once we settled in, had dinner, did her business, she was super relaxed and hasn't panted since, not once this morning. The meet and greet with Winnie was just perfect, no issues whatsoever and she met our cat, Smokey too, in which she was very curious. He gave her a tap on the side of the face (just to let her know who runs the household) and they are now just fine. She is a great eater and loves her food for sure and we will work on getting her slimmed down. She is definitely mobile but had a bit of trouble on our garage stairs - maybe she just needs to get used to them. She jumped up on the couch with us last night and was just adorable. Overall, I think her first night with us was highly successful and it's only going to get better. Thank you for choosing us as Allie's new family, we just LOVE her. ~ Ann & Marion

Dahlia
Happily Adopted!
Dahlia is doing well. We are making small but continued progress. She walked past the neighbors house but is too nervous to walk across the street to the mailbox. We would love to take her on a walk at the many trails or beach but don't want to stress her out. She let my son, who visits, pat her briefly but then backed away. We were happy for that small progress. He will be coming over tonight again. He so wants her to bond with him. Otherwise she is doing great. Eating well, starting to like her treats, ventures into the fenced area of yard, does her business then runs back inside & sleeps well thru the night in our room. ~ Andrea & Bob

Vernon
Happily Adopted!
Vernon is doing great and we would love to have him be with our family. My husband thinks he is the best and he seems to be happy. His big brown eyes look to your soul. My girls have been a little intimidated by his size but no problems. Thank you! ~ Linda & Jim

Oreo
Happily Adopted!
Oreo, now Sabrina, is amazing and doing very well. She is quite chill and relaxed most of the time. She loves her walks, toys and sleeping on a dog bed, including the one in my office at work. She is friendly to everyone and every dog so far. She definitely already has pretty good manners and loves to be close, give kisses and receive love. ~ Elizabeth

Sadie Grace
Happily Adopted!
It's as if she has always been part of the family, she fit right in. She is happy and relaxed and loves on all off us. When one of us is out of the room and returns she wags her tail as if she is so glad to see us. She is a beautiful dog, and has melted our hearts. All 6 off us are in love with her. Last night she slept in bed with me and Kevin. She has already been on 4 long walks, and has introduced herself to many neighborhood dog's, with nothing but a calming sniff to say hello. She is quiet as a church mouse and so gentle. She is certainly a perfect fit. Sadie is doing great, settling in well and eating well. She is sleeping through the night and is a good girl in the yard. She leads us home on our walks-such a smart girl. ~ Elaine & Kevin

Tanner
Happily Adopted!
In all, Tanner is a very lovely and loving addition to our family and we are all working to get to know each other better as well as enjoying each other. He has adjusted very well and very quickly. Our little problems will be worked out easily I am sure. He is very loving, curious and playful - loves his tennis balls and woobie and enjoys our evenings as a family on the patio playing with those items. He adjusted to his new environment quickly after exploring every inch of the house and yard the very first day we brought him home. Has met most of the family and they all love him. We are walking quite a bit and he has lost 5 pounds already!! ~ Norma & Jeff

Bixby
Happily Adopted!
Bixby is settling in! And so are we! We go on several walks a day and she loves to smell the smells! She gets excited over squirrels! We Play a lot! Nap too! Bixby has met my sister’s and brother’s dogs and it went well! Bixby loves attention - and loves us to pay attention to her - if not, she may find your shoes for you, or grab a book off a shelf, or a dish towel! Lol! We have all learned to keep things up high! She does love treats! And snuggling on the couch! ~ Betsy & Rob

Marmaduke
Happily Adopted!
OMG! He is a doll! He did great in the car - the ride was over 3 hours! He explored
the house and yard, ate dinner, played with some of our pile of dog toys and is now sleeping peacefully. We are in love! We’re going to call him Duke or Dukey (only Marmaduke if things are REALLY serious.!) I can’t believe we are so in love already! Again, thank you and all the volunteers of SGRR! ~ Sharon & Andy

Snowball
Happily Adopted!
Snowball is now Sven, named for the smart, sweet and loyal reindeer companion of the good guy in Disney’s Frozen. Since he is a Golden mixed with Samoyed, a breed known to herd reindeer, it seems a fitting name. Our Sven is also as sweet as can be, affectionate and very polite in the house. He is already learning quickly from our own training at home. When he reaches full activity level, post heartworm treatment, he will attend classes and dog activities, all based in positive training techniques. Regarding the struggles of his past, he is enthusiastically saying, “Let It Go!” He is ready to have fun, to be shown kindness, and to be loved. Our heartfelt thanks to the SGRR volunteers who are so caring and dedicated and brought Sven to us. Adriaan, Robert, Jess, Donna, Nancy, Ava, Arvind, Lisa and all the others! Thank you so much!! Sven is loved . . . Sven is home. ~ Yvette & Larry

Eazy
Happily Adopted!
We had a nice ride home after picking Eazy up. Eazy slept almost the entire time, and I think he was saving up his energy so that he could do exploratory laps around the house when we got home. Things are improving slowly, but that's to be expected and he seems to be settling down even faster than I expected. In fact, Eazy just this minute, came into the computer room and laid down on the doggie bed, so that's a good sign. Hopefully, he's getting comfortable with both me and the house. We've been out in the back yard three times today. I sit in a chair so I can keep track of him while he does laps around the property. Thanks again for your help in matching me with Eazy. (Fosters) Dot and Larry were great, and I feel so fortunate that I was selected to adopt another dog from Sunshine. ~ Mike

Gigi
Happily Adopted!
Gigi had a good first night in that she slept through it (Thank God!) but she really needs some training in terms of in-house manners, leash walking, and the like. Two of our dogs are already fine with her and she and Finn (our 21-month old) are already tearing around the backyard. Benson, our thirteen-year-old Cocker, is acting like a grumpy old man and this will take some work. Gigi is just amazed there are other dogs living in the house and she is certainly eager to please. These first few weeks are always labor intensive. I have our trainer coming by on Wednesday and we have been down this road before. I do think she is a good match and we will do our best to iron out the kinks. Again thanks for your help and the work that your organization does. ~Lauren & Joseph

Berry
Happily Adopted!
First 24 hours have gone very well. He has eaten 3 meals, is drinking water, and is taking somewhat frequent short walks. He basically slept through the night. He occasionally gets wound up and tears around the house so we put his leash on and calm him down quickly. We are very sensitive to the heartworm risks that too much activity introduces. He has met several of our extended family and does well with other people. Trying to keep him away from other dogs, but when he sees them he wants to interact and howls. We live in a high dog density area! The session with Ray (the trainer) went very well. He gave us several lessons to work on with Berry to help him understand proper walking etiquette and obedience. Thank you! ~ Karen & Jack

Hobbs
Happily Adopted!
Well, Hobbs is settling in. He's following me around, especially in the kitchen. He slept most of the night on our side patio room on the cool stone floor -- I slept (kind of) on a sofa next to him. He either ignores me or is definitely deaf -- we'll work it out! He met several of my friends' dogs and no problem. One is a 9 month old and wanted to play -- after sniffing, Hobbs just ignored him.
I do see physical and personality traits of a Newfoundland. He acts and is a miniature of my son's Newfie other than the webbed feet. Doesn't really matter. So I'm saying he's an Alabama Teddy Bear. Thank you. Hobbs is just what we needed and I hope we are what he needs. ~ Ken and Marie

Kim
Happily Adopted!
We came home late afternoon. Everything went well. She is a lovely dog and has adjusted well to us. She loves the back yard a lot. We have just a few issues to resolve such as jumping on he couter and pulling on the leash but she is a very smart little girl who can sit and shake. She is extremely food motivated and that is great! When we sit, she sits beside us. She likes to run around the yard. When she sees her reflection in the mirror, she barks and growls at it. Daisy tolerates her and I keep a watchful eye when they are together. Day care starting next week. It will be good for her. Everyone loves her. She is very special girl and we are glad that she is now in her forever home. ~ Maryann

Doc
Happily Adopted!
Amazing! He is truly heaven sent! He did well in the car, ate when he got home, loves the kids and even got a bath! He is super tired, I imagine from the long trip so here he is asleep. You were right about needing tissues at transport. I was a mess! My heart exploded when he walked down that ramp and I fell in love instantly. We are all so happy! It’s kinda funny how involved the kids want to be with feeding him, walking him and training him. He is a great listener and he is really smart too! We have to work on “walks,” but he definitely enjoys running loose in the backyard. ~ Rosa & Chad

Goldie
Happily Adopted!
We’ve been busy adoring Goldie and all of us are getting used to our new routine. She is a typical Golden, smart and cuddly. She has settled into her new situation very well, is definitely enjoying her yard and has claimed the top of the steps in
the kitchen as her spot. Thank you and all at SGGR for agreeing to let Goldie become a member of our family. ~ Janet & Walter

Arthur
Happily Adopted!
Finn (FKA Arthur) is awesome! Our vet agreed with most of the stuff in his medical reports, from the Alabama vet, including estimating his age at 3 years +/-. Finn wouldn’t eat the Science Diet Sensitive Stomach dog food, we had purchased for his arrival, for two days. He vomited and my wife made him chicken and rice which he ate and kept down. Tried a couple of other quality dog foods and he will eat IAMS if we wet it before feeding. We’ve been walking him and he is good on the leash. We’re so happy he’s here and hope he will be too. ~ Gerald & Patricia

Bella
Happily Adopted!
Bella is adjusting to her new home in VT. She easily walks on the leash and will follow from room to room, all around the house. Bella loves car rides, enjoys sniffing the country air and rolling in the fresh cut grass. She went to the lake and is learning the lake can be fun to swim in. She was a bit scared at first, but learned quickly. Bella is scared of the thunderstorms, but overall doing well. Bella enjoys all the creature comforts and made her self right at home on the sofa. She will let you know when she wants something or does not want to do something. Bella does not seem to know simple commands but Carol is teaching her each day and she seems to be improving.

Sully
Happily Adopted!
Sunny (fka Sully), has settled in beautifully. We've had him for two day but it feels as if he's been here forever. He is loving, affectionate, and a super snuggler! He is a 65 lb lap dog who loves to be on the couch with his head on our laps. We're looking forward to walking him around the neighborhood when he's not exercise restricted. He had no trouble going upstairs at bedtime and slept through the night. He tells us when he has to go out. We are in love! A gazillion thanks to everyone at Sunshine who made this happen. Our hearts are full of gratitude for all you do. ~ Carol and Harvey

Butter
Happily Adopted!
Butter's settling in really well! She was very calm in the car on the ride home. She was scared of the stairs up to my apartment at first, but we spent some time on that yesterday and this morning she's going up and down them without needing any help. She's the perfect pup! ~ Grace

Duffy
Happily Adopted!
Pick up went very well! We both slept a little over eight hours. Duffy and the cat are still studying each other, but all is well. Duffy is making friends at the dog park. He acclimated quickly and is my permanent shadow. He’s a great dog! ~ Lynn & Gary

Gigi
Happily Adopted!
Hi everyone! My name is Gigi and I found the best furever home!!! My new mommy loves me so much ❤️ She loves to spoil me. I even get to sleep in the human bed with her, although I do have several doggie beds around the house. I found my twin in the mirror. My mommy has a twin in the mirror too. I haven’t figured out how that works. This is only day three and I’ve already met some really nice doggie neighbors and new fur buddies. There’s lots of little kids around here too. Such a fun neighborhood and the best furever home! could’ve ever imagined. I am one very lucky doggie ❤️❤️❤️!!! Thank you Sunshine Golden Retriever Rescue because you are the best!!! ~ Gigi & Sue

Chance
Happily Adopted!
Chance is doing well - eating great! Chance eats everything in his bowl. He likes to play ball and barks at Cody when he has the ball. He is a Velcro dog. Willy the Cat stays out of his way with no issues; Chance just walks away. I have two beds for him but he prefers the floor...which he slides on. I put throw rugs down and he jumps from one to the other. Pretty funny! I just knew Chance belonged here! ~ Susan

Oliver
Happily Adopted!
I am just so thrilled with his progress!! I was woken up with kisses this morning and he slept most of the night on my bed. No problems with anything so far except the poor cat, LOL, but that will come along. He stops when I say no; he really listens. He runs with my dogs Abbie and Harley to chase whatever they think is coming to get us (an ant??). He loves being outside. He also loves his pumpkin treats and stays by me most of the time. My son came to meet him. I took him out with no problem. Again thank you! ~ Linda

Jolene
Happily Adopted!
Jolene, now Josie, is doing wonderfully! She and her new dog sibling are getting along. Josie has been welcomed into the neighborhood by several dogs nearby. She is good on leash and does not pull. Josie is friendly and looks for attention from her people. Josie likes to come over and lean on you, she is such a love. She enjoys chewing on her special bone, from her friend Dave. She is very gentle, and takes a treat out of your hand. Josie is a joy to have in the family. ~ Dorothy

Flynn
Happily Adopted!
He has been so good, so calm, I haven’t heard him bark. He is very friendly with the kids, but is a bit afraid of the adults. It takes a while to warm up . I also wonder if he has had stairs in his previous home, he doesn’t go upstairs. I left him on the first floor. I think he slept all night in his bed, no signs of him on couches. We spent most of the day on the deck, he really loves being outside! A perfect match! Thanks again! ~ Lynda

Tripp
Happily Adopted!
Here is Finbar, formerly known as Tripp. We picked him up on Saturday and he is settling in well. He slept through the first night, in his crate without a peep. He is an awesome dog and we love him to bits. He is young and is still learning but Oh is he smart! People stop us on the trails and tell us he is beautiful and always ask what kind of dog he is. We just say he is one of a kind and he is one of a kind. He is gentle and affectionate and we know he will be a great dog for years to come. He loves his fenced in yard and loves to play ball in the yard with us. He has become my shadow and follows me everywhere. Once his heartworm recovery period is over, I plan on taking him on long hikes with his sister Gracie. Thanks once again Sunshine! ~ Lynn & Bill, proud owners of the Finbar

Luna
Happily Adopted!
Luna has really taken to Eric. He resigned himself to the fact that we would be foster failures when we agreed to foster Luna. She is very well mannered and let me bathe her and trim her nails with no problem. She is good with our other dogs but does not really engage in play yet. She has a high prey drive and slipped through our wrought iron fence! I knew to watch my son's smaller dog with that but never thought a full-size Golden Retriever would do that! I then spent a good part of the day putting chicken wire all along the fencing to keep her safe! ~ Nancy & Eric

Ruthie
Happily Adopted!
Ruthie is doing great! She slept on our bed last night (invited) and is a very relaxed dog. We took her on a couple of short walks yesterday and did a couple miles with her this morning in our neighborhood. We’re gradually increasing the distance as we figure out what her stamina is like. She seemed a little itchy, so we gave her a shampoo this morning which seems to have helped. She’s been sticking pretty close to Cindy and me when we move around the house and go out in the yard. She’s been very quiet so far, but when I came back from the little market up the street today, she gave me a little bark when I came in the door. Good to hear. So far, it’s been a fantastic experience and we’re loving having her as part of our family. The kids enjoyed meeting her virtually through FaceTime this morning. ~ Dick & Cindy

Clem
Happily Adopted!
Flynn (FKA Clem) is a sweetheart. Just a big gentle giant who loves to be loved…pet him and he just melts to the ground and wants you to rub his belly. He is amazing with people. We had some family over for a few birthdays yesterday and he was the hit of the gathering! He's just a love-bug. We are actually going to be working with a trainer to help us work on his leash skills (he is super strong) and Rosie’s toy/food aggression and a few other things for the two of them so we have happiness and harmony. They both love to go for walks and be outside in the back yard. They started to have bouts of playing together which is nice to see. They actually are pretty good together. Thank you for trusting us and allowing us to rescue this amazing, handsome, sweetest, lovable furbaby. ~ Laura & John

Gracie
Happily Adopted!
As for Gracie, there is no "if" here, she's staying! We love her! And I think it's safe to say that she loves us. She follows me everywhere. If I leave the house then she will go sit with Jim in his office. She really is the sweetest little dog. The intro to Burke and Annie went much much better than I anticipated. Gracie was so excited to meet them and they both handled it well. She's bossy and wants (demands!) ALL the attention but they are dealing with her. I swear she's only 6 months old lol! She is 45 pounds (don't know where they got 55) and looks and acts like a puppy (mouthy, chewer, into everything, etc). She is really smart though and it is obvious she had some training. She knows what to do, but struggles with staying focused (squirrel!). We adore her. She loves every person she has met and has been 100% successful at charming every person she has met! So yes, definitely 'happily adopted'. Thank you for all your help! ~ Wendy & Jim

Lars
Happily Adopted!
Jasper, FKA Lars, is settling in nicely and we're developing a routine. Jasper made himself at home with one of his new cat "siblings." The vet said everything is fine with him, although she was surprised that we weren't told the extent of his skin condition (lack of fur and blotchy patches) - he's on antibiotics and a medicated shampoo as a first step. That's just information for you, we have no intention of returning him because of this. The trainer comes Friday which should also help Jasper settle into his new life. I also have to report that Jasper is a champ with the '2 Hounds' harness, walks nicely by our side and doesn't strain. Thanks again for all your help! ~ Andrew & Margaret

Perci
Happily Adopted!
We’re loving Perci, now called Reese.... though she doesn’t quite know that yet :). She’s a quiet girl. She roams around the house from room to room to see her people, laying down while they work or sit. She likes getting belly rubs and my son loves giving them to her! Nighttime is more tricky...we’re still working through the crate training. We moved the crate to our room last night but she was still very anxious. Eric had to sit by her crate on and off for a couple of hours to get her to settle down. We probably need to have her get familiar with the crate other than just at nighttime. We’ll keep working on it. She’s a good girl and we’re doing OK and adjusting to each other. Thank you so much everyone at SGRR!!

Yeti
Happily Adopted!
Yeti, now Baxter, is doing GREAT!!! We are so happy with him. He plays very well with Tucker. My little Zoey has not yet warmed up to him, but she'll get there. He LOVES to go on long walks. He is so good on the leash. We walked three miles yesterday and he stayed right next to me... Except when he saw the squirrels and wanted to catch them. That's the only time he pulled on the leash. He is learning to sit, stay, and lay down and he learned how to ring the bells on the door to go out (Tucker taught him that). He only had two accidents inside. We just love him to pieces!! ❤️

Bodie
Happily Adopted!
Bodie is now Seguin and Seguin is definitely stressed. He's been panting and pacing really heavily since we picked him up. Even though we walked him so that he could use the bathroom before we headed home, he peed but wouldn't poop. I feel bad for the big guy. We took them all for a walk when we got home and they played in the backyard for a while. Then we came in the house and Bauer & Kopitar crashed and Seguin just panted & paced. Hope he has a good night, I'm sure he must be exhausted. Seems like he'll take longer than Bauer to get acclimated. I know some take longer than others. Once we put him in his crate for the night, he settled down nicely. We didn't hear a peep from him all night. We went for a walk this morning, and they played outside. He is panting and pacing less as the days go on. ~ Brenda, Jeff & Tristan

Fred
Happily Adopted!
So far so good. He is still working on going up the stairs (he is very good with down!) But I'm sure in a few weeks he'll be a pro. He is a very good boy who slept through the whole night (which we were very impressed by) and so far has had no indoor accidents. Even on day 2 he is showing some of his quirks and goofy personality, so we are both excited to watch his personality continue to blossom. We love him so much already and he's such a good boy. Fred had been licking his paws and was seen by the vet who determined Fred may have a bacterial infection going on, so he is on antibiotics and anti-itch medication for now. His itching/licking significantly less which is a great sign. He also gave us a medicated bath which we will do once a week for 6 weeks. Our Vet is optimistic in a few months his coat/paws will be nice and healthy.
We are still so impressed how well he's settled in. And we are enjoying seeing little quirks that appear as he gets more comfortable (he now does a little dance once we grab the leash as he knows it's time for a walk!). We were very excited to get our first belly rubs in yesterday (I hope it's a sign he's getting a bit more comfortable) and I even got him to play tug for a few minutes with a rope toy! He quickly lost interest but I think with time he'll get the hang of it :)

Lacy
Happily Adopted!
Lacy is very easy and super-good girl. She is still figuring out that she is home and is getting more comfortable every day. She enjoys going for short walks several times each day, and loves to hang out on the back deck. She met several neighborhood children over and over as they stopped by to say hello and welcome Lacy, and she loved that! She is starting to follow me around the house and stays near me when I am working. She likes to sleep in and will wait until 9:00 or so for her breakfast—a Princess! She is so soft and gentle. Lacy is a keeper! ~ Debra

Finn/Zion
Happily Reunited!
This fellow was found wandering around in Pensacola, FL. Our rescue took "Finn"
in, but happily his owner was found. She told us his name is Zion and that he
has been with her since he was a puppy - she even fed him from a bottle. Nice
to have a happy ending with 9-year-old Zion being reunited with his mom!

Lady
Happily Adopted!
A small update on Lady, now known as Maggie... She has already stolen our hearts. This weekend was a much needed adjustment period. This beauty is going to make us put some hard work in! But she is so worth it. Her first nights were spent in our mud room but she has ventured out now and has made her home in a luxurious dog bed in the living room. My husband has been sleeping on the couch as she has yet to figure out stairs. She does have some resource guarding with toys and my suspicion is that she never really had any of her own. No dog intros yet but we plan on taking that slow. I took her to my parents house and she went for a swim in the pond and had a ball. We have already scheduled some time with a trainer so that we can get her to a place where she can play with dogs on our boat days! She is submissive and fearful, definitely not vicious. We are looking forward to her personality coming out in the next few weeks. It breaks our hearts that she has been bounced around so much and we look forward to being her last home. She has made the front door her favorite place, she watches the birds and neighbors walk by. ~ Caitlin

Kelly
Happily Adopted!
Oh we’re keeping her, no question! It’s been a challenging month but it's absolutely improving. Kelly, now Sammi, is doing better with accidents and getting into a good routine. We just had our second training lesson and it’s helping a lot, so now we have our homework to keep focusing on with them. The walks are a struggle so doing them one at a time instead of together has been key. Here’s a cute pic of them - Sammi (fka Kelly) and Gabbi (fka Casey). We're still waiting on more cuddles but they tend to prefer their time chasing each other and treating our living room like it’s a circus pad LOL. They love each other so much! ~ Stacey & Ryan

Zak
Happily Adopted!
Zak had his first appointment with his vet. The vet loves him and said we have been blessed with a great pup! He got on the scale with no problem and climbed up on the table for his examination with no problems. He weighed in at 82 lbs and she is not concerned with his weight and feels with his increased activity level it is a good weight for him, although he may lose a few pounds with all of the walking he is doing now. His eye surgery is healing well... The left eye is taking a bit longer to heal than the right but it is in great shape. Zak was very well behaved and as our vet said, “more behaved than some humans that she knows.” Thank you again for our amazing fur baby! ~ Marybeth & Tim

Sasha
Happily Adopted!
Sasha is so sweet and she loves everybody! She is so at home here. Of course, she is totally in love with David—bonded! Some male figure in her former life loved her, it is clear. She is fine with our elderly poodle. One kitty is curious, the other younger kitten is not sure and doesn’t come downstairs much yet. Sasha is literally like she always lived here! She is beyond sweet. Please tell Cheryl she is a keeper for sure. Thanks so much to all of you “Golden” people! ~ Betsy

~ Betsy
Sydney
Happily Adopted!
So glad she came home safely! Sydney loves her crate! We left the crate open and she goes in by herself to nap. She comes out on her own. Sydney is a very sweet dog. The biggest challenge we are having right now is her having accidents in the house. The girls love Sydney and are being very helpful. ~ Rosa & Rich

Bear
Happily Adopted!
Handsome Bear has settled in really well. We’re very pleased and trust in the next few days he will know he is in his forever home. He’s quite funny with some quirky habits. He prefers to sleep in the living room by himself and his SGRR red collar that he carried in to his bed! (I put a new collar on him with his tag last night.) When we’re in the kitchen he likes to rest his head on the counter; Yes, he is that tall!! We’ve played outside in the snow many times today and he’s managed to send all of our squirrels running to another county! We all walked to the woods this morning and he met one of our friends with her Goldendoodle. He was very cordial. Then we took him to Hot Diggity Dog self-grooming facility and gave him a lavender/oatmeal soothing bath. He seemed overjoyed and calm. He and Noah are becoming friends - no problems thus far. Noah’s nose is still a little out of joint, but time should cure that. They love playing together in the snow out back. We thank you and everyone for all the coordination and time spent to make this happen. ~ Jan

Sadie
Happily Adopted!
She found a place on the living room rug and slept the night with Ann's slippers beside her snout. She didn't have any accidents (although she was only alone for about 4 hours - I am a night hawk and Ann is an early bird). This morning I took her out to do her duties and she happily complied. She is eating and drinking like a pro. She gets all tuckered out from watching out the window at the squirrels and chipmunks. In between times she's laying her head on our laps and we (and Sadie) are enjoying every minute of it. Thank you again! ~ John & Ann

Jeffery
Happily Adopted!
Jeffrey (whom we are re-branding "Milo") has settled in really well already and is already getting used to a routine. He is an absolute sweetheart - he thinks he's a lap dog! We all slept well - he didn’t make a sound all night! And he was very excited to see me this morning, so we are already best buds. He’s already learning what stairs are all about which is key in my house to get him outside while there’s a foot of snow on my back deck! He’ll be a pro in no time. Thanks to you for all your efforts! ~ Paul

Lexi
Happily Adopted!
Mika, (FKA Lexi) is doing well! She is a very sweet, loving, cuddly, Velcro which is all good, but we believe some of it is based on her abandonment so we need to work on building her confidence. She likes Princess but Princess is still a bit leery of the pesky kid sister, but they have engaged in play several times. I give my dogs fish oil capsules in their food. The other morning Mika decided it would be fun to play with it. She must have bit into the capsule and sucked the fish oil out. She was then tossing the flattened capsule around the family room, chasing after it, and doing it over and over. She's a funny little thing and a lovely dog! Thank you Cheryl for fostering her and providing us with so many pictures, videos, and details about her! ~ Donna & Ken

Cole
Happily Adopted!
Except for some accidents inside, everything is great - we are big time in love with him! Cole is slowly getting used to everyone. He is a very sweet, loving dog and is slowly getting used to being in a loving home. I tell him everyday he is safe but instead of listening, he would rather nibble on my hand. Lol He tries to play with Dudley and Dudley kind of lets him. He doesn’t have any best friends yet, with any of the other babies, but in time they will all be amazing together. Thanks again for this blessing we call Cole! ~ Jeff & Dimitri

Coffee
Happily Adopted!
Just following up to let you know that we are all settling in and adjusting quite well. Otis, FKA Coffee, is quite attached to Anthony and I, which we love! Otis, has puppy energy and explored and followed us around most of the first day until he conked out for a nap. He likes to chew so we are teaching him about appropriate toys/Nylabones. He did very well in his crate last night and is excited to be part of the family. We are all in this together and looking forward to the next steps. Thank you so much to everyone at Sunshine. ~ Hadley & Anthony

Russell
Happily Adopted!
Max, "formally Russell", is doing very well and settling into our home nicely. He went to the vet already and they said he is the sweetest and all looks good! He has met a few doggie friends and really enjoyed his first snow ! He is gentle and sweet and the kids especially are in love! He gives kisses and his paw when he sees or meets anyone. He plays fetch with the kids and seems to walk very well on the leash. He willingly slept in his crate all night without a peep. We feel like we hit the rescue dog lottery. Thank you so much for all your help with the adoption process and making it as seamless as possible and matching us with such a great boy! ~ Jolene & Robert

Bader
Happily Adopted!
Bader has taken some time to adjust to his new home. Bader started out with lots of energy and was not sleeping well. With the help of Brian (Leash on Life), Bader is learning how good it is to be in a loving home. Bader is so sweet and happy and loving. I'm sure that I wouldn't be able to find a better fit personality-wise for me. I got him a Kong and of course he stopped as soon as the peanut butter was out of reach. So I ordered him a couple of other puzzle toys from Chewy. Now that he can take longer walks we can tire him out so he sleeps at night. ~ Sarah & Paul

Henley
Happily Adopted!
Henley is fast becoming one of the easiest dogs I have brought in here! The last 48 hours Rosie has returned to normal and Henley has relaxed and has a calm about him that has surprised me. I have always gotten up early and now I get up even earlier to take the dogs out. (4:30 to 5am) . When they come back in, the coffee is ready and I get to spend the next hour or 2 with my friends sleeping on the living room floor as I watch the news and drink coffee! Completely relaxed! So very peaceful that I find myself napping? This morning I almost got up at 4 am because I was looking forward to how I feel during this time with them! I just love them all and Henley is such a loving dog! I think he just needed to find a calm place to feel safe! Henley and Rosie have been playing all morning with no problems anymore. And I am so happy with how Rosie has dropped all her issues and is being a happy fun loving dog!! Rosie came upstairs this morning at 5am to wake me up and brought Henley with her. They were just standing there together just looking at me when I woke up. He is the perfect dog in the house! It has now been 2 weeks since he came here and I have had a lot of dogs come through my house but none at 4 and a half years old with such good behavior!! Thank Donna and Michelle for thinking of me for Henley! I love Henley!! ~ Glenn

Berg
Happily Adopted!
He’s settling in well and he’s beautiful. What a love he is and a very good boy. He loves watching squirrels. He seems very serious about them! The first night he slept in our bed glued to me. What a little furnace! Last night he slept on his bed (extra large orthopedic dog bed) which is on the floor at the foot of our bed. Naps are in our bed with us. He is making himself at home! He’ll be spoiled but that’s how we roll! A million thanks! ~ Veronica & Fred

Max
Happily Adopted!
I just wanted you to know that Max is my first Golden Retriever lap dog out of five! I sat on the floor, not too far from him, earlier and he lifted his little paw like he did in the picture you sent me. Then he settled down in my lap. We've been sleeping downstairs as he was timid about a full flight of stairs. But yesterday Max came up with me and found not only my bed, but my pillows and made himself at home. I'm so happy looking at him asleep at my feet or playing with a toy, however briefly. He's a wonderful boy - incredibly sweet and good natured. I love making him as happy as he makes me. Thank you again! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Yes - BEST Christmas present ever! ~ Nancy

Scarlett
Happily Adopted!
Scarlett is so unlike any dog we have had. She is timid and reserved and at the same time needing of affection. I don’t think anyone ever played with her. It’s like she doesn’t know how. She has no interest in any kind of ball or Frisbee. We are determined and enthusiastic in making this work. She was so funny this morning. She absolutely refused to get up. So, I said ...”OK”. Then I took Percy and Lily out. They did their business and played. Well, guess who got up on her own power? Yup, independent Scarlett! So, please know that she is loved, warm, well fed, and comfortable. I am sure that soon she will be happy and well adjusted…. Well, look where
I found little Missy when I came home from walking in the woods with my other two…on the couch!!!! Our Southern Belle apparently feels right at home. She’ll be ready for our romps soon (I know, not too soon). ~ Mike and Irene

Gomer
Happily Adopted!
He is just so sweet!! And all he wants is to be as close as possible to us. His face just melts your heart!! Not sure how much he has been in a car or in a house because it took us a bit to coax him into the car but once in he was the perfect passenger. Once we got home he seemed a bit reluctant to come up the steps into the house. He has been in and out a couple of times now so that has settled down. He took a walk with my Rosie today and all went well. He is settling in nicely!! We love him!!! ~ Mary Beth & Stephen
