Happy Tails 2020
Finn
Happily Adopted!
He is doing really well, with normal eating, drinking, and sleeping patterns. He is incredibly affectionate and playful. He seems comfy and OK. He has discovered his bed and toys - trying them all out. He seems to have settled in very well. He is truly gorgeous and is so nice and sweet and animated. We are just so grateful to you. ~ Jamie & Sarah

Millie
Happily Adopted!
I think she's doing well. She has a sweet temperament and is beginning to get used to us and the new place. She still doesn't like going outside in the cold, even with a coat on. We've just got her a crate and are hoping crate training will encourage her to resume her potty training. She's started peeing outside, which is a good improvement. Here's Millie in her new Christmas sweater!

Chance
Happily Adopted!
Chance came to us as a foster when circumstances changed with his family and they were faced with the heart wrenching decision that Chance needed to be surrendered. They turned to SGRR to find him a new home because they cared and loved him so much. It didn't take long for us to see what a sweetheart Chance is and that we wanted to adopt him. It's clear he misses his family and we know we can never replace them. Chance is slowly adjusting to his new home and backyard. He enjoys being outside, loves his stuffed animals, especially Lambchop, and he loves getting snuggles. We love Chance and hope one day he will do us the honor of adopting us as his second family. ~ Jack & Ellen

Happily Adopted!
We are starting to settle in a bit more, day by day. Crate training has been going well-he now will nap in the crate during the day when we put him in and sleeps mostly in his crate overnight (we keep the door open so he can get out and get water). We next need to start working on being able to leave the room while he’s in his crate. I can see some separation anxiety, maybe in our future, if we don’t! He can still be quite naughty at times, all things we expect with a puppy. We have a meet and greet today with a trainer to start working with him. He can have some fear barking/stranger hesitation, and got a bit nippy at the vet and had to wear a muzzle to stay safe so we want to train and get him some confidence to help these issues early on. ~ Kimberly & Thomas

Koda
Happily Adopted!
I'm crazy about the Big Guy! I'll give him the outlets he needs once his health is assured, but for now, it's several walks each day. This doesn't necessarily tire him out, but it keeps him active. His night routine is good; after the last walk he does lay down and doesn't request any more play time. He is excited to see my wife when she comes home. In fact, he's happy to see anyone new. He is falling into a routine and I was prepared that he would take time to get acclimated to his new home. Overall he is a really sweet pup and I am strongly bonded to him.

Kobe
Happily Adopted!
Kobe came in as if he has always lived here! He stayed on the couch with Rich for belly rubs. He is a very good walker on his leash, and he sleeps on the bed all night with me! And he is such a beautiful red color. Bless his heart, he is wonderful! He is a little sweetheart. Thank you so much! ~ Teresa

Harry
Happily Adopted!
Just wanted to give you an update on our sweet boy Harry. He is doing just great and gets along splendidly with his siblings Bella, Winnie and Smokey. He has been sleeping mostly since he's been here, eating well and doing his business outside. He's showing a little more energy each day and we are getting lots of tail wags. We had a fire last night and he just curled up on his bed and enjoyed the warmth. We love him so much and can't wait to see him get healthy and blossom. We are so grateful for Harry - thank you for choosing us! Happy Thanksgiving (I know we have so much to be thankful for). ~ Annie & Marion

Ellie
Happily Adopted!
We’re home. Pleasant trip to get her. All went well. Quite an operation seeing all those folks getting their dogs.
Monday: She is such a good girl! No difficulties whatsoever. She has a nice energy level, sleeps well, and is very affectionate. All three of us (Carolyn, Ellie, and me) are doing well and are happy! Thanks for everything. ~ Joe

Zoie
Happily Adopted!
Zoie is fitting right in. She is relaxed and she has been sleeping right thru the night until I get up in the morning. She really loves her bed! We’ve been walking every day and trying to train her not to pull. Zoie loves to play with squeaky toys, she’s just so darn cute! All of my family has met her and they all love her! One other thing, I have to stop her from jumping when she sees people. She settles right down at night and sleeps while I watch TV ..she’s a love bug❤️❤️ ~ Patricia

Cooper
Happily Adopted!
Cooper is doing well despite his lack of training (although he does know how to sit). His leash skills are basically non-existent so every day is a new adventure in that department. Sometimes he is an angel, sometimes a wild boy, and sometimes he sits beautifully and simply refuses to move an inch. He would like to stay outside all day and becoming an immobile statue is his way of keeping everyone outside with him. We are using the Two Hounds Freedom Harness which gives us lots of options - front clip only (above) for walks in the woods, front and back clip with a shortened leash for walks in the neighborhood. No problems taking things out of his mouth or even sticking our hands in to get the whatever he decided to eat, that I consider inedible. He likes his toys but gives things up easily in order to keep the game going. He quickly learned that jumping up on the couch to look out the window and trying to counter surf were not appropriate behaviors in our house. He is very calm and relaxed in the car and settles right down - same in the house. He gets a little overly excited when meeting new dogs and neighbors - submissive or excitable urination - that might be a bit tougher to work on during these times since we aren't seeing as many people as we would in non-pandemic times. I has been a bit harder to introduce him to new experiences at the moment. However, he is not alone in this ~ I know a lot of people who get overly excited when they finally see another human in the flesh after 10 straight hours of Zoom calls. We are investigating training options for him - again a little more complicated in Covid times. We are looking forward to continuing Cooper's learning journey - he is a lovely boy. Thanks to everyone who helped him find a home with us. ~ Noreen & Lawrence

Lacey
Happily Adopted!
Lacey is doing very well - slept great, eating great, amazing energy! Starting to explore more of her new house! Walking around with a black dog stuffie in mouth! When first here she ran around the yard chasing tennis ball, rolled around on her back doing kick kicks with back legs! I think she’s a charmer and will do fine. Following Jeff around lol! Don’s son’s wife has shared pictures and updates with Don and all the family, they are thrilled. She spoke with Don today and he’s very happy Lacey is with us. Plan to continue to share pictures and updates. Thank you so very much - we are over the moon for her!! The joy of rescue, especially a senior, is beyond words❤️❤️ ~ Deb & Jeff

Ollie
Happily Adopted!
Everything is going great!! Ollie slept with Matt all night while I slept in the guest room with the cats, so everyone had cuddles. The cats pretty much keep their distance from him and just stare curiously at him from across the room. I've never seen a dog less interested in cats. He hardly even notices they're here! They sneak up for the occasional sniff of him but otherwise, everyone is just leaving each other alone and peacefully coexisting. He's eating really well. The baby gate is working out beautifully for the needed separation. He's amazing on walks. He heels close to my leg and never pulls even when he sees other dogs or a cat. We've brought him to three stores so far and he's so well-behaved. He doesn't let anything distract or entice him. We brought him to PetSmart about an hour ago to pick out a toy and when we were in the aisle, he just stared at us like "why are we stopping here??" He showed up all the other dogs who were there for an obedience class!! He's funny and stubborn. When he doesn't want to do something, he doesn't budge, not even a little bit. A treat helps but not always. He's barked only once when Matt just now tried to slightly shift him on the couch. He was NOT having it, LOL. Overall, he has the sweetest and most pleasing personality. We couldn't ask for a better dog for our family. We're so happy to have him in our lives. ~ Rebekah & Matt

Mikee
Happily Adopted!
Everything is going great with Mikee! He has been adjusting very well so far. He has not had an accident in the house which is also always a good sign! He sometimes climbs up on my lap to get me to pet him like a lap dog would. He seems very happy here, gets along with his canine sister, and always has a smile on his face. He is such a sweet boy. If you get on the ground to play with to pet him, he gets so excited he jumps on us and licks our faces. We have been working on fetching and other activities with him too. We actually got him to fetch a slightly deflated volleyball which he brings back half the time lol. We know we have a lot of work to do with his training but I know once he gets it down he'll be a wonderful companion! He is a keeper for sure! ~ Tristan, Brenda & Jeff

Sparky
Happily Adopted!
Day 1 - Sparky is slowly getting used to everything. It's all so new. He is still reluctant to walk around the house and he walks very hesitantly entering a room. He doesn't go on the couches, but is comfortable on a rug in the living room and won't go upstairs, so he slept in the living room. A little unsure in the yard and on a short walk. I'm trying not to smother him. He's laying on the rug in the living room now. I was with him for a while and he stayed, leaning into me.
Day 2 - He got on the couch himself when I was upstairs. Now, he likes it.
Day 4 -He seems very comfortable, considering it's so different for him and even sat on the couch with me. We'll get by and he'll grow up. He'll love it here. I just have to let him go at his own pace. He's great! ~ Stephen

~Day 1 -We are home all safe and sound…Ben just took him for a walk. He’s a beautiful dog! Thank you! He is definitely a puppy who needs training.
~Day 2 -We already see improvement in Ranger (fka Snow) in the two short days we’ve had him. He was obviously super excited to be here on Saturday and has calmed down a little bit since he arrived.
~Day 4 -He is doing really well….better every day and we are learning how to expend his energy and keep him busy! Thank you for all your help finding Ranger…we love him already! ~ Linda & Ben
Big Al
Happily Adopted!
Cooper (fka Big AL) sat quietly and did not move the entire trip home while enjoying some treats. Cooper is gorgeous and his pictures don’t do him justice. First night was excellent and he slept right through - poor Cooper was tired. He spent the afternoon chasing the Frisbee and tennis balls. He also did two walks totaling two and a half miles. We took him to Pet Smart where we bought him a bed. Thanks for introducing us to such a wonderful dog! ~ Carl & Elena

Happily Adopted in the South!
Found close to starvation and with hardly enough strength to life her head, this little girl is showing her champion spirit and her will to live.

She is absolutely the sweetest little girl, but the energizer bunny. Zoomies or absolutely asleep until the 'frig' door opens - voracious appetite. She walks twice a day at least one mile, EACH walk, but we have not lost any weight yet. She learned to fetch, BRINGING the ball BACK in 15 minutes! SMART! We met with the trainer our vet recommended. All simple things, but she responded like a champ. He will be here on Monday. He found her to be very intelligent, eager to please, easy to train.

Henry
Happily Adopted!
He's great, very friendly and has quickly adapted to the house finding his comfy spots. He is settling in really well. I socialized him with a friend's dog and he was perfect - playful and not aggressive in the slightest. Then took him to a dog park and he was perfect as well. I've narrowed it down to him being overly excited ONLY when on a leash (or behind a fence) - seems like he just wants to play with the other dogs and gets stressed when he can't get to them. When we were leaving the dog park, he started barking again only after the leash went on. So, we've been working on that and, while he's still barking, he's much less frantic and no longer jumping and lunging. I did speak with a trainer, but I'm not sure he needs anything professional at the moment, just needs some more time working on his manners when seeing other dogs. Otherwise, he's very well behaved, walks well on a leash, follows direction well and gets along great with other people. ~ Ian

We have experience with Labs, and our last Lab had hip problems too, like Thea. We have already worked with our vet to help Thea feel her best. She loves her walks and tries to chase bunnies. She settled right in. Last weekend she met our eight-year old granddaughter and was so happy! We love Thea very much. ~ Missy & Bill

Happily Adopted!
Henry (FKA Ralphie) is doing great. The whole 2.5 hr ride home he laid his head on my lap. He rode so good in the car. We slowly introduced him to Boba and the greeting went really well. Boba is such a laid back and accepting dog and Henry just wants to be with him. I even took both dogs on a short walk and Henry followed Boba’s lead and my direction. I think Henry is going to sleep very well tonight. He seems like such a smart dog and I believe training will go nicely with him. Thank you so much and thank you to Lisa and Haley for driving all that way to bring Henry up North!

He has been doing great! He's so friendly with every person and every dog he has met! He is still getting to know my apartment, but he has been a great listener; from improving on the leash to mastering fetch. He really is a quick learner and aims to please. My parents and family love him to death. My aunt's dog and he have been like two peas in a pod. ~ Jeremy

Happily Adopted!
We’re home. He rode pretty well in the car. He was excited at first but then settled down. I brought his Nylabone and that helped. His introduction to Bridgett was non-eventful. He wants to play but she’s setting the boundaries and he follows them. We’ve gone for a short walk and explored the yard some. He doesn’t want to stay out long though, he runs back for the door. He's going to be called "Charlie". He's such a happy boy and it seemed to fit. He loves toys. We had a basket full and he figured out pretty quick they were his. He keeps rooting around in it and pulling different ones out. There's one larger ball that took him a while to get out. It makes weird noises when it rolls and that freaked him out. He won't go near it now. Lol. Now he is settling down. It’s been a long few days for the poor boy. Day 2 - He slept through the night in the bedroom with us. He’s already much calmer today. We’ve gone for a walk already. I just gave him a bath. We have a walk in shower. He resisted going in a little, but then he was fine during the bath. He’s very curious about everything. I threw his towels in the washer and he was turning his head and looking at it like what’s that? The robot vacuum ought to be interesting when it starts tomorrow! Thank you again for another wonderful Sunshine pupper. ~ Bruce & Pat

He is so sweet and smart and walks really well on leash. He sits and waits when we stop to talk to neighbors and greets neighbors' pups very well. He crates easily, loves to play, retrieve and drop ball/toy . He is just so pretty! His new name is Oliver and he is AWESOME! Thank you for everything! ~ Karen & Monte

Holden
Happily Adopted!
Holden, now Goose, is doing wonderfully. He seems very happy (lots of tail wagging) and we can't get enough of him (cuddles & belly rubbing). He loves being outdoors on the grass or inside on the couch. He loves exploring the yard which is all fenced in. We live on a lake but he has not noticed the water yet. He is such a sweet & mellow little love. Everyone who has meet him, loves him. He is a perfect addition to our family. Thank you for rescuing him and bringing him into our lives. He is perfect!

Leo
Happily Adopted!
He is doing great! He is eating and letting us know when he has to go to the bathroom. Leo is getting more comfortable in the house and around the yard. He hasn't encountered a person he does not like. He manages a few stairs okay with the ones to get in and out of the house. However, has not gone up to our second floor, so my daughter set up camp with him downstairs on his first night.
Once again, I cannot thank you enough for the trust you put in us. We are thrilled to have Leo as part of our family. ~ Jen and Tom

Hank
Happily Adopted!
Hank likes the yard and explores, and we took five short leash walks throughout the day. He is trying out his dog beds to figure out which he likes best. I think it will take him another day or so to recover from his very long journey, as he still seems a little sore, although he is much better today than yesterday. He is a talker and whines to eat his breakfast at 5:45 a.m.! And he really loves his treats. Hank is extremely sweet and I adore him! ~ Christine

Jesse
Happily Adopted!
We have had this girl now for two weeks. While she is far from perfect (what dog is after all?) we have seen a very sweet, very well trained, beautiful dog who romps in the backyard after her squeaky ball, loves to ride in the car, rolls in the grass, asks for belly rubs and likes to be with us but is far from being a “Velcro” dog. She is happy eating kibble and doesn’t ever beg. She greets people and other dogs with subdued interest. Admittedly she has refused to go for a walk a few times, didn’t want to even consider the lake when we tried to take her for a swim, and once even resisted getting out of the car at the park we go to. We haven’t had any thunder or lightning and we are guessing it won’t go well when it happens, but we have come to the conclusion that dealing with an occasional storm isn’t sufficient reason to reject this dog and subject her to another transition. Thank you for allowing us the time to really evaluate her to be sure we were the right people to adopt her (and change her name to Missy out of respect for very close friends who recently lost a wonderful dog named Jesse). ~ Dot & Larry

Dixie
Happily Adopted!
Dixie, now Sadie, loves the water! She and our younger dog, Felice, like
to play together. We are working with a dog trainer who has given us
some good advice. Working out a few kinks, but each day will get better.
We also spoke to Mary Jane, SGRR's trainer, who offered us wonderful
advice and encouragement. ~ Theresa & William

Jaxson & Justine
Happily Adopted!
We're all doing great - Justine & Jaxson are a pleasure! We're settling in now in Milford. They love the yard. If Jax goes indoors before Justine, she comes in to get him. They play, roll in the grass, and greet the neighborhood dogs thru the fence. Jax had a few pee accidents but we expected that. He did not feel well earlier, threw up outside, then perked up. I made him some brown rice and a little organic beef broth. Barely ate it, prefers his food - and treats, plenty of treats! Justine is actually the bigger eater. She ate her dinner and Jax's tonight. (Did not expect that) And - she loves blueberry Greek yogurt. I think it helps with the loose stools from the Rimadyl. Bart takes Jax on walks around the neighborhood. We'll start Justine when her injury heals. We noticed Jax has some separation anxiety and we are working on that. Initially, he had to see us all the time and would position himself where he could do that. J&J also met their canine neighbor, a pug named Lola. Jax comes in to visit me while I work on the main floor and Bart works from the dining room as much as he can, so he can be with them. Their photo and adoption story has already been posted on my company's internal Team page for Pet Lovers ;-) We are getting more runners so Justine can get around on her own. My fence installer just had his power restored and he sent some fence panel examples. If all goes well, the fence will be installed before Labor Day. Until then, we walk them around the yard. Next time we're in Windham, we'll take them up to the green. We are delighted! ~ Gwen & Bart

Duffy
Happily Adopted!
Duffy, now called Sammy, has arrived safe and sound! Sammy has made a smooth transition into our home. He loves all of the attention he is receiving from Stephen, myself, Sean and Mary Kate. He is eating well, enjoying several long walks throughout the day, and playing in the backyard. He is a bit nervous, but I noticed a difference this morning when we came back from our first walk of the day. One step at a time! ~ Colleen & Stephen

Happily Adopted!
We have to say, the girls (now Adi and Ella) are so sweet…can’t even believe it…once we figure out the pack thing with Chance, we’ll all be very content and happy in our little piece of paradise. Adi loves to swim and Ella likes to go in up to her shoulders. All three dogs are eating well. We are taking them on long walks each day all together. On our morning walk all three are fine together. Following our morning walk, we started doing a short walk on the property with Chance and one of the girls at a time, and that seems to help them. Both Adi and Ella are sweethearts! ~ Jan & Bob

Mabel
Happily Adopted!
We’ve had a great first 36 hours with Mabel. She arrived happy (and understandably a little tired) and is settling in well. The transport arrived 35 minutes early and we happened to be there along with your wonderful volunteer Marion, so we were able to get Mabel first off the transport at our stop. The driver said she was so playful at the stops - sounds like she was one of the stars of the trip. The four kids were so excited to meet her when we got home a short while later. They are playing with her. When she seems to want it, we're giving her some quiet time too. She’s already eating well (she takes her time with the food) and is great on the leash. So far it seems that those who cared for her did a great job with house training. She loves being petted, getting belly rubs, and snuggling. In terms of her leg, it seems like she walks on it normally most of the time and occasionally she hesitates and ends up avoiding putting weight on it. Not sure if we mentioned it, but we decided that we’d keep the name- it seems to fit her very well. Thank you for everything you’ve done along the way, and to all the other volunteers. Everything has been so well organized and thoughtful. Mabel has made a strong recovery and is off to a great start here thanks to the many helping hands of your organization. ~ Carolyn & Chris

Bishop & Haley
Happily Adopted!
They are so cute! Haley was very nervous and hadn't really slept at all at first. However she immediately jumped into my bed and she is fairly calm for bits of time. When I take her out she pees on the grass, so that's good. Bishop is much calmer and more stolid, and he's lying down sleeping. He jumped up into my bed too, but he's sleeping on the floor now - it is much cooler.
They are both little loves, so sweet. When they jump up it's like being touched by a feather compared to galumphy Flat Coated Retrievers! They both ate kibble mixed with rice this morning, and they're pretty interested in the cat food and in cookies, but they are very good and haven't actually stolen it yet. Bishop still seems pretty itchy - I rubbed a little coconut oil into both of their really bad areas that I could see and they are basically laying around and acting like dogs today. I steamed them some salmon last night and they loved it! :-) ~ Lynn

Bonnie Tapioca
Happily Adopted!
Bonnie Tapioca, now Akako is doing amazing. I cannot thank you guys enough for this angel. We had a busy weekend and she was one of the most behaved. She has been looking for Siloh's attention. I hope for a lot more of this. She is an intelligent sweetheart who needs structure. Thank you for thinking of us & the support during this transition. ~ Kimberly & Tristan

Biscuit
Happily Adopted!
Biscuit is doing great! He is the sweetest boy and loves to cuddle and play. We have only heard him bark once, when he was startled by our ice machine. He is struggling a little on the stairs, but we’ll work on it. He is doing great on the leash and loves to sniff everything during walks. Thanks again for everything! ~ Patrice and Brian

They are the sweetest! They were great in the car ride to our house....about an hour and a half drive. Got them home and took them for a walk....will need a little work in that department, but nothing that can't be fixed. We had a peaceful night. The pups settled on their beds and slept through the night. They truly are awesome dogs. I think we hit the jackpot. We just finished
giving them baths and they were great. I think we will all be very happy together. The house already feels so much more alive with them in it. Thank you so much for these beauties. They will have a happy life...! ~ Jane & Leslie

We are almost a week together and it is working out very well - we are getting our routine down. He is eating very well - breakfast and dinner - which he wasn't doing at his foster. We walk in the morning before breakfast, so perhaps that spurs his appetite. We limit walks to about 20 minutes and will build up over time. He did very well at the groomer ~ Rose

Paul is doing GREAT! He has taken well to Jeana and I. He is pretty good on a leash and he loves his brother Griffin. He's been napping on and off all day. He falls right asleep when he gets pets and follows us all around the house. He is such a happy boy and we are so happy! Paul has settled in better than we could ever have imagine! ~ Matthew & Regina

Sissy
Happily Adopted!
So far, she is exactly what we had hoped she would be. She's a sweet dog who loves to explore, and she and Eddie are already buddies. Eddie may not be able to walk tomorrow with all the running he's been doing, but he's going to have a smile on his face regardless. It's fun watching them follow each other through the house and around the backyard. She seems to like the yard. It's big enough so she can run and stretch her legs and there's lots of new scents to explore. She has slept well. She woke me around 1:00 this morning to go out. I put the slip lead around her so I could get her in right after she did her business, and she didn't offer any resistance. Please know that Lori and I appreciated the opportunity to interview with Ava and Arvind, as well as each of you taking time with us and trusting us to adopt one of your dogs. Please let me know if there may be an opportunity for me to provide some volunteer support to SGRR in the future. Thanks again for everything. ~ Tom & Lori

Marley
Happily Adopted!
He is AMAZING! We love him so much. He’s been glued to me since we got out of the car. We played some fetch in the yard and took a walk after. He couldn’t have been better! Such a sweetheart!
Marley has had another great day. He’s such a love and everyone who meets him adores him! Our cat, Rosie, is even starting to warm up to him. He was snoozing in his crate this evening and she went over and gave him a sniff. He didn’t even twitch. She decided he was safe enough to be with and joined us for some TV time before heading back upstairs. Lol. I feel so bad he can’t meet any friends on our walks because he so wants to. He’s such a sweet, friendly boy, and so smart! We’ve nailed down sit and he goes right to his bed when it’s time to sleep. He took his first (of many) walks on the beach today and loved it- there were so many smells to discover. He definitely has a little bit of separation anxiety when it comes to me, but it seems related to the transition. Today was better than yesterday. He’s such a love and we absolutely adore him. We got so lucky! ~ Emily

Sundance
Happily Adopted!
Sundance (now Wyatt) had his first night with us. We went for several long walks and had some training time. He is doing well and learning commands. One issue that we are working on is how mouthy he is - he prefers shoes and feet over toys, but we are beginning to see improvements as I write. He doesn’t much like his crate, but he slept in it through the night; without a whisper. He really is a special dog, and we are all so happy he's here! Thank you and the rest of the volunteers for everything you’ve done! ~ John & Cindy

Happily Adopted!
First few days are going great! We spent yesterday in NJ at my mom's and just got back to Boston about an hour ago. We’re taking it easy on the activity but he’s already walking so well on a leash and aside from one minor inside marking at my mom’s, no inside marking. He's settling in nicely and is SO happy every morning when he wakes up, eager to make up for all the snuggles he didn't get while we were sleeping. I think he's happy to just be waking up in the same place after all of his adventures last week. He loves offering us his tush for ample butt scratches and is happy to chill with us much of the day while we are working. He LOVES humans and is still figuring out the other dogs on our walks (there are so many in our neighborhood). We are watching his back left leg (it seems like he's avoiding putting pressure on it and we will ask the vet next week, but he is managing with our stairs) and we are hoping he starts to eat a bit more than he has been. But every day he's getting more and more comfortable. He is such a good boy and is so full of joy. Thank you again! ~ Jordana & Ben

Pearl
Happily Adopted!
Pearl is doing just fine! She wags her tail, follows me everywhere, asks to go out, and seems very relaxed and comfortable. She even found a tennis ball in the yard and tossed it around, playing by herself. She didn’t eat for a couple days but with some added wet in her dry food and staying near her while she eats, we have had success. She loves my son who visits every day and gives her extra attention! ~ Norma

Happily Adopted!
I am happy to say she got a clean bill of health! PHEW! I can breathe easy now. The vet said Gabbi is absolutely perfect! She has such a sweet, loving personality. While I would describe her as a little shy, she is also quick to warm up and very cuddly. She is super calm 90% of the time and then she gets these very brief bursts of energy that are just hysterical. She's been doing great with eating and going to the bathroom on walks. The one "problem" we have is a funny one. She managed to jump up on our bed (which is pretty high) the first night and refused to move after making herself so comfortable. This has happened a few more times and it is hard to tell her no and get her down without laughing. She also takes my husband's side of the bed which makes it even funnier for me. But we will have to work on this and hopefully she'll learn to love her cozy cave bed :) Thank you, Donna, and all the Sunshine family for helping us find the perfect dog. It felt like a long road that was very much worth the wait. ~ Stacey & Ryan

Max
Happily Adopted!
Max has been everything we had hoped he would be, and more. A very quick learner, Max is so advanced for a 6 month old. He has learned to sit on command. We have taught him to come when called, wait until he is allowed to eat or drink even if the food is right in front of him and to signal to us if he needs to do his business - all this in a week! He loves the dog park in our community and is very social. He sits outside our Guinea pig's cage, waiting for her to come out and play with him. He goes to her cage and drops all his toys calling her out to play and whines when she is too scared to come out. It's adorable. We are slowly planning to let them meet in a controlled environment and get them acquainted. We have been so lucky to have Max in our lives. We didn't know how much Max would change it for the better. Thank you Sunshine Golden Retriever Rescue and the foster dad Glenn who took such good care of Max from the time he rescued Max. SGRR made the entire application process seamless. My wife and I are so grateful to everyone involved. ~ Arvind & Anusha

Happily Adopted!
Things are wonderful! She's sleeping through the night, eating, drinking, following me around everywhere - still a little unsettled but seems like she is starting to settle in. Oh- and she doesn’t like to pee in the rain - lol. That’s OK she’ll get used to it. And as you can see I need a bigger dog bed - 😂 I ordered it today. We absolutely love her 🐶🐾💙. She’s such a beauty, isn’t she?
~ Adriaan & Robert Update - We wanted everyone to know that Luna’s (fka Drexel) first week with us has been great! She’s a big love bug and we couldn’t be happier. We think she’s happy too- prancing to the front door and wagging her tail at everyone she sees! It’s been so nice for our family to walk, play and spend time with a dog again. A huge thank you to our foster mom, Cheryl who took such great care of Luna while we waited for her arrival, and big thanks to Donna, and the people who drove for hours to deliver her safely to us! Stay well everyone ~ Adriaan

Frannie
Happily Adopted!
Frannie is doing well! She has been exploring the house and yard and seems to be very happy! She has already found her favorite places, a dog bed in my room and midday she takes a nap under my bed. My dog walker has taken her around the neighborhood and she explores in my backyard. She is very cute. Frannie is a sweet dog, and I like her! ~ Bill

Dougie is home! He’s the sweetest boy! He kept giving me his paw on the ride home. He and Golden Copper are getting along fine. He is curious about the cats but fine with them, except he tried to eat their food! Thank you all for everything you did to make this happen.

Happily Adopted!
He’s doing great. He’s taken out every stuffed toy and brought it to me. Took a few of his toys and jumped into his bed. What a doll!!!! He loves the yard. I called him when I didn’t see him and he came running pretty fast. It’s been many years since I’ve had a golden that could run fast. This
guy is youthful! Now he has settled down nicely for the evening.
He’s very sweet. ~ Beth

Pammy
Happily Adopted!
Here is Pammy’s first-24-hour update: Last night in the back yard I walked up some of the steps to the porch and she followed me. So, I continued all the way up and she didn't hesitate to follow. She also followed down with no problem. Stairs are conquered. She ate her dinner quickly last night and this morning. I'm doing a mixture of ground beef, rice and softened Science Diet kibble. She seems to love it. She also took her medicine in cream cheese with no problem. The cats have smelled her but seem to ignore her. Skater, our Black Lab is fine with her too. The dog bed that was in my car for her trip is easy to move room to room. It has become her center and she goes to it every-time needed. She's a love and even this morning gave me a tail wag!!! In love, ~ Keller and Chesley

Grayson
Happily Adopted!
Here's a picture of how beautiful Grayson is. He's doing very well. His legs seem much stronger and he's learned how to negotiate curbs and minor obstacles. When he first came he fell quite a few times. He gets up quickly and well but lying down is very hard for him still. I keep figuring out ways to make him more comfortable. He has free range of my home and chooses to sleep on the sun porch. He loves to lick the dinner plate and the ice cream dish aware of that availability - someone loved him in his past. He comes to me first thing in the morning to ask for his pill when I come into the kitchen, but is still not an eager eater. Although I leave my bedroom door open at night he still sleeps on the porch. He is the hit of my community. So many people excited to meet and pet Grayson. I live in a great place with so many animal lovers. He has not yet wagged his tail for me or any people but does when he sees another dog. I do love having the company and he might be recognizing his name - I'm sure Grayson was not his first name. All in all - I would call this a success story. And I love him!!! and my neighbors love him!! ~ Joan

Duffy
Happily Adopted!
When we got Duffy (now Sam) home, he calmed down almost immediately. We walked him through the yard, spent some time with him, then introduced him to his furry family -- first of all our 12-year-old Lucy. They sniffed and circled and all was good. We went on a long walk and everybody was fine. We brought Sam into the house and he met our 15-week-old Golden Retriever puppy Charlie, and our 15-year-old rescue Suehiro, who is unable to move much now. We love Sam's positive energy and sweetness. He is bringing a renewed vitality to our seniors and is having a blast playing with puppy Charlie. We wanted to adopt a black dog to honor our sweet sweet Black Lab Abby, who died of bladder cancer on Dec 22. Sam is bringing us so much joy. We absolutely adore him. Thank you SGRR!!

Jeffrey, now Cooper, is doing really well. It's like he has been part of our family forever. He already gets along with Ginger (SGRR's Nini) and Hope and Pearl (the cats). I'm not sure they know what to make of him.....because he is small and just so cute! He is eating, drinking, knows where to go to the bathroom.... He is a true gift....and a blessing to our family! We all love him! This is our fourth Sunshine doggie and once again we thank you for all you do to help make dreams come true....... by adding such a special new member to our family! Danny
Happily Adopted!
Hi - It's me... Danny. I was one of Karla's Kids. Our mom passed away and I was so scared. I know everyone was very worried about me because I was so withdrawn, but you can rest easy now because I am very happy now. day we went to the park. It was my first time ever for a walk in the park and I just LOVED it! I also love going on walks with my mom & dad. Sometimes we do little sprints and that is so much fun! Mom & Dad think I am the cutest dog ever and they gave me a new name. Do you want to guess what it is? It's BEAR! I am their special teddy bear boy! Thanks for saving me! Life couldn't be any better!! XOXOXO Danny Bear
Danny is doing great and has actually approached me a number of times for pets. He's explored the house, has his favorite dog bed now, and there is a treat we have that he especially loves. He's still reserved and we know it'll take awhile for him to fully relaxed but so far so good! We already love him! ~ Julie and Matthew
Update - Danny is doing amazing. He's come around so much more even in just the last day or so. He has turned into my little shadow. He gets FOMO if people are in a different room than him and will stealthily sneak in and just lay down and stare at you. He was such a good work-from-home buddy today, laid right next to my desk while I was working and occasionally come up to sniff and ask for pets. He also loves going outside and laying in the mulch. Matt and I couldn't be more in love and are so incredibly grateful for all of your help in making him part of our family!

She is a love! She came off the transport very excited, happy, and immediately gave us kisses. She is getting along well with our dogs, and is sweet and friendly. She seems like a great fit. The timing is also good. My kids’ school is closed until further notice so she will be getting lots of walks and extra attention. All good! Thank you for ALL that you do and for trusting us with this gorgeous baby! ~ Laura and Richard

Happily Adopted!
Panda loves riding in the car, snuggling, and is very sweet! She seems happy and is adjusting quickly. We have never had a dog this young before and she chewed through her harness in the blink of an eye - we won't make that mistake again! We will be starting training classes next week. Her new pup check-up went well. She is definitely happily adopted! ~ David and Carol

Melrose
Happily Adopted!
Melly is extremely lovable, and a little mischievous too! She likes to throw her toys in the air in the house and catch them, and she has lots of energy. She is very affectionate, and I can be with her and give her opportunities to bond. Hard to believe when I applied to adopt Melly (now Maggie) I had no real expectations. Just wanted to take a senior dog out of a shelter and have her end her life in a home. On Saturday I was blessed with a sweet, lovable Golden girl. She and I will be best friends forever. ~ Catherine

She is doing really well for just a couple of days. She started to drink water on her own and she was licking the snow and does fine with it! She has a mischievous side and brought towels onto our bed to make a nest in the middle of the night! She is going to do fine! We are calling her “Charly.” Thanks to everyone! ~ Carolyn and Joe

Amy
Happily Adopted!
Amy is doing great! She is so happy and active. She loves the yard and runs across it, and we took her for a short walk. There was no sign of weakness in her back end. She also went for a little car ride today and loved watching out the window. She has such nice manners in the house. She loves her dog bed, and chose a spot by the window where she sits to watch the birds and squirrels. Walter is crazy about her! She is so dainty and petite! We couldn’t be happier. Thank you so much for choosing us to be her family, and thanks to her fosters, and to the nice young couple who brought her to us.

She’s doing great! She’s so curious, looking around and sniffing everything inside and out. She especially loves the smell of our shoes, of all crazy things. She has a new favorite job as a lap dog! She loves our yard and seems un-phased by the cold. She gets very excited and hops in the air with all four feet off the ground, while we try to keep her relatively quiet to recover from Heartworm. She’s adorable and we love her! ~ Elizabeth and Dan

Gus
Happily Adopted!
On Christmas Day, Miss Karla collapsed in her yard and passed away in her neighbor's arms. Miss Karla lived in a rural, swampy area of Louisiana. Her home was surrounded by wetlands, marshes, bayous, pampas grass, and alligators. She had no children, was not married, and her brother wanted no part of the 20+ dogs she left behind. SGRR took in 6 dogs from this rescue endeavor. These sweet souls are Goldens, Golden mixes, Bassett Hounds, Dachshunds, and combinations of all the aforementioned. They range in ages from 1 to 8 years. We have named them Jesse, Gus, Pam, Jeffrey, Martha, and Danny. Gus has been happily adopted by the family that was fostering him!

Lori
Happily Adopted!
Super Bowl Sunday we received a call asking if we would consider fostering Lori (who is now Lily). We had just lost our beloved SGRR Roxy and we were very sad not to have a dog in our home, so we agreed to take Lily until SGRR found a home for her. Little did we know that they already had her home…….our home! It was truly love at first sight and on the way home in the car we knew that we were foster failures!
Lily is not the typical velcro Golden yet, but with patience and love we know that she will soon blossom and grow into the happy dog that she was meant to be. With a stray we never know what a pet has endured. It can take months to gain their trust, but we have gone down this road before with our Roxy and the thrill of watching a pet become a happy, relaxed member of the family is so exciting and rewarding beyond words! Lily has begun her adjustment and is showing small, but positive strides each day. And when they happen, it is a thrilling moment for all! What seems like such a tiny, insignificant step to someone who has never had this type of pet, is actually a celebratory moment for us! If I could still do a cartwheel I would!! It is hard to imagine the thrill of seeing that sweet face peeking around the corner from her safe zone (her favorite bed). It is a sight that literally brings tears to my eyes because I know that she is on her way to overcoming her fears. We are working on very basic things such as learning that it is safe to take food from our hands, that it is okay for someone to walk toward her even if they are very tall (Lily is very small), that it is fun to walk on a leash, that our touch is gentle and kind, and that it can be fun finding treats hidden around the house ( a trick to get Lily to come close to us). Each day is a new adventure and we look forward to each one!
Thanks to the SGRR team who found Lily, arranged for her medical care, and recovery from surgery, scheduled her transport and finally to Candy who thought of us to foster and Donna who made the call to ask us. We will do our very best to give Lily the life that she truly deserves. We think that we are pretty good parents, but we stink at fostering! LOL! ~ Belinda and Hap

Bonnie
Happily Adopted!
Bonnie now Riley is doing great and bonded with Tucker right away. She is walking on the leach as well romping at the dog park with Tucker and jumping up looking for some love when Tucker does. Still was very skittish this morning and ran me about the table to give her a snack. As I type this, both dogs are at my feet - go figure. We will send new pictures in a week or two. Thank you again. ~ Ron and Olivia

Happily Adopted!
We have had an exciting few days with Loki. He is such a GOOD dog. He is so eager to listen and take direction. He understands sit and high five and is so excited to practice training each day! His fur-brother, Beanz, is even sharpening his commands! It took a few days but he has found his voice (just to announce folks walking by) and found his appetite. He really enjoys going for walks and keeps a nice pace with all of us. He likes to gather all the dog toys but is fine with us taking them back. He is starting to understand his new name and loves to shower all of us with kisses and the loudest happy tail wags I have ever seen/ heard. So grateful to the work SGRR does and the awesome assessment that was provided. Loki was all that we expected with an extra dose of sweetness. Even our vet fell for his sweet disposition! Thanks, again! ~ April & James

Wonder
Happily Adopted!
He has had 3 very good days. Today my younger son brought him to the dog park and he did great with all the other dogs - very happy and playful. My son did notice that dogs sometimes took Wonder by surprise when they ran at him on his left side due to being just outside of his peripheral vision. So there were minor little collisions periodically but nothing that caused any issues. Usually the dogs just started playing when that happened. I am thinking eventually his hearing/sense of smell might compensate to better let him know when dogs approach from that side.
He is eating and sleeping well and has already established himself as the always-smiling greeter at the front door when someone enters. He is fast asleep now - probably from a busy day at the dog park! He is such a sweet boy who just wants to be with people. He is very sweet and just showers everyone in his path with unconditional love. Thanks for checking in! ~ Siobhan & Vince
He has had 3 very good days. Today my younger son brought him to the dog park and he did great with all the other dogs - very happy and playful. My son did notice that dogs sometimes took Wonder by surprise when they ran at him on his left side due to being just outside of his peripheral vision. Bud
Happily Adopted!
He had a great overnight. We went for a short walk thru our park before bedtime. He is really enjoying the snow and all the new smells. He went easily into the crate and he settled down very quickly with no fuss. No noise from him overnight until he heard us starting to get up. Only then did he start getting excited and start whining for attention. Another quick walk this morning which went well. He’s certainly getting very interested in his surroundings. He’s beginning to learn to sit for treats and is working on wait. As for indoors he’s very calm and just can’t get enough belly rubs! If everything continues like this it looks like we have a very loving, but calm dog. We’re changing his name from Bud to Tango. Tango is a brand of orange flavored soft drinks (similar to Fanta) from the UK (where we’re both from) and suits his coloring. ~ Neil & Tracey

Arlo
Happily Adopted!
Yes, we are off to a good start! So far, so good. Have kept their leashes on just to be safe. Some occasional growls from Arlo inside, but nothing out of the ordinary. Mainly because our dog sniffs him too long, but they have laid together, been close by and etc, without problems. With the snow, both got excited and Jackson plays with some pouncing and growling/low barks, so they got briefly involved but as soon as we said no, they both stopped, so that's great. They both lay or sit near each other and have shared some kisses and sniffs. Arlo is very clingy, more so than Jackson, but it's cute. They both follow us around and are very attentive. We're trying to give them both equal affection and attention. Arlo is not a fan of the stairs. He goes up, but it takes awhile to convince him. He's afraid to go down though. We've been trying to work on that, but Greg has had to carry him down lol. Arlo slept well in his crate last night, by Jackson's bed. No problems. He did throw up this morning, just clear/white'ish, no food in it. He's been fine since and has been eating well. We separated their food of course, between a baby gate and they are both interested in each other's. Arlo seems more interested in Jackson's food than his own, but we will keep him on this until we finish the bag and transition over to raw. We have a treehouse in our backyard and Arlo loves to pull/tug/chew on the end of the rope lol. He's getting used to the noises, but still barks when he hears something outside, which Jackson then joins in, but Jackson was the same way when we moved here too. Arlo will get used to the noises. ~ Tina & Greg

Cane
Happily Adopted!
I have changed his name to Tokula (it's the Lakota word for fox) and he has responded to it very well. I have him in a crate while I am at work and I was at first nervous about it, but as soon as I set it up, he went right in and made himself comfortable. (But this is only when I have to head out.) He seems to get into some weird things- like my screwdrivers that I forgot I left out, and my measuring cups, and laundry. He just spread them around the house but i don't want to risk anything bad happening in his exploration. I was still concerned about how fast he was eating his food, (he was a very good puppy waiting for me to feed him though) so I went out and bought a special feeding bowl that slows his eating down and it seems to work really well. He is beginning to become comfortable with his home and has chosen his favorite toy (a honking goose). He went on a three mile run with me yesterday and did great! In fact, it was able to help him sleep the whole night since he has been home. He has becoming my little shadow everywhere I go in the house. His walks around the orchard are becoming more comfortable. He still gets startled by the geese and donkey noises. I think that he is doing very well. I have a pet sitter coming by for a consult visit tomorrow afternoon to set up days she can take him when I am going to be later than usual. I have even begun to set up one or two rooms this weekend that he will be confined to during the day instead of just the crate. Its a learning and growing experience for both of us, but I am loving having him with me. ~ Tim
