Luna

Happily Adopted!

We are in love. Luna, now Jozi Mandela, is a doll. She loves her walks and playing with her toys which she removes from the toy baskets and “decorates” around the house.  She has settled right in as part of our family. ~ Ava

Lady Lila

Picture
Happily Adopted!

I adopted Lady Lila and she is doing very well. She is getting along with the cats and is really a perfect dog in just about every way.  It’s still shocks me that she is no one else’s dog.
We are already best friends. She loves to ride in the car so if I have to run an errand, I take her along. We are good walking buddies as well. I have finally found toys that she likes and she is settling into a routine here.  I took a personal day from work today; I am catching up on grading this morning and she is right by my side. This afternoon we are going for a long walk in the woods with a friend and her dog.
Every morning I have to go to work, she gets a Kong with a bit of peanut butter and a bacon flavored dog strip inside. I am hoping that keeps her busy for a little bit because she seems to really need something to do and people to interact with. My daughter is home during the day a lot of times, so they play together, but also a dog walker has been coming in at midday just to give her a little break.  I already love her so much. Thank you for your role in the adoption.
~ Maureen

Happily Adopted!

First of all, she is an absolute love!  No house messes and she is affectionate and sweet to everyone and everything.  My dogs were a bit shocked at first as she threw herself at them and tried to cover them in kisses!  She slept all through the night on the dog bed in our room.  We all really adore her!   What a great addition to our family.
~ Jill

Buddy

Picture
Happily Adopted!

Buddy, now Ozzy, is doing so great and truly seems right at home. SGGR was right on when they described him as a goofball ~ what joy
he brings! He loves his new toys, bed, and people, and already recognizes all four of his people’s names. We are pleasantly surprised by how trainable he is, already mastering sit, stay, and come ~ and is great on leash and learning to heel. Ozzy is such a happy boy, and we feel so blessed to have him. Thank you so much to everyone involved in rescuing this true gem of a pup. ~ Pam & Tarik

Rio

Picture
Happily Adopted!
Rio, now Beau, slept well overnight. At some point he found some shoes and we found him with the shoes surrounding him.  He also loves stuffed animals and balls. Walking well with one of the dogs I walk and he did great and is good on a leash.  He took a trip to NH to the campground where we have our camper. I’m sure he’ll have a great time meeting all the dogs up there.  Thank you again to everyone that was involved in rescuing him… he is truly a gem. ~ Mary & Frank

Jamie

Picture
Happily Adopted!
We are calling him Harley now. He is settling in nicely with just a few expected hiccups.  He is such a pal, he loves my kids dogs and our friends’ dogs as well. He is fitting right in. ~ Laury & Steve

Lucy

Picture
Happily Adopted!
Well,  she is sweet. Not house broken is the biggest issue right now. She also chases my cat though I believe they’ll work it out. She also chews whatever she gets her mouth on.  There is much training to be done. ~ Jane

Claire

Picture
Happily Adopted!
We feel like the luckiest people in the world to have adopted Claire (now Callie-short for Calla Lilly).  She is sweet, calm and a bit sassy!  She had a good ride home and adapted to us immediately after exploring her new environment.  She rested between visiting each of us for cuddles, ate and drank, and had a great night sleeping next to our bed in her new fluffy dog bed.  She had a nice walk in the neighborhood and seems to be enjoying the cool weather here in Maine. She even talks to us and offers a sassy response sometimes.  She’s just adorable and exactly the perfect girl for us.  Thank you so much to SGRR and all the volunteers who took care of her and helped with her coming to her forever home! ~ Ingrid

Bear

Picture
Happily Adopted!
Bear is doing great!  He settled right in. Piper adores him and has since we walked through the door.  We decided to keep the name Bear as it suits him. He is a well-behaved boy.  He walks nicely on a leash and knows basic commands. He must have been crate trained as he is very content in the crate when we go out.  His vet check-up went well. He is getting groomed on Tuesday.  Can’t wait to see how he looks all cleaned up. He starts invisible fence training later in the week. Thank you so much for all Sunshine has done for him and for trusting us with this wonderful dog. ~ Marianne

Creek

Picture
Happily Adopted!
Everything is great! Creek and Gunnar are getting along so well. Creek’s biggest adjustment has been what I’m calling his “behavioral uniqueness” of eating/drinking. My assumption is that because of the conditions he was in he is in mindset of “let me eat everything or drink everything now because I don’t know when I’ll get it next”. Because of that he will drink a lot of water at once until he empties the bowl and that aha caused some accidents. However, he is so incredibly smart. Within two days he not only listens perfectly but I got him over his fear of stairs, jumping into the car, and he understands my training with holding back on drinking too much now. He is such a happy mush and cuddles with me every night in bed (I wake up to him on top of me). Right now as I work away at home Gunnar and Creek are sleeping on the floor together! ~ Dan

Pretty

Picture
Happily Adopted!

Pretty, now Missy is an affectionate lovely pup.  We love her already!  We are working through acceptance with Akira (prior SGRR adopted pup). We have had a trainer coming and he has a good way with both dogs.   They had a good walk and playtime together.  I am positive we can work through this, and Missy starts accepting Akira. We are so happy to have Missy in our family. ~ Lata

Georgia

Picture
Happily Adopted!
We picked her up yesterday from Uncle Chris and have been ordering from Amazon nearly nonstop to get her things to play with, fish oil, bone broth, etc.  We are giving her 3 walks a day plus plenty of play as Ava suggested that a tired dog was a happy/good one.  Georgia has plenty of energy 😂  We have a vet visit scheduled for tomorrow.  We’ve started the process of introducing her to my in laws pugs which is a work in progress but I’m sure will turn out great.  Thank you again she’s such a sweetheart, we couldn’t ask for a better pup!  ~ John & Jessica

Rusty

Picture
Happily Adopted!
Rusty, now Rudy has been adjusting pretty well and eating, drinking and sleeping well. He made himself right at home on the couch and only has eyes for Jeff!! He enjoys running around in the yard and playing with Jeff. Debbie has been leash walking him with a harness and working on his walking skills. He had a play date with another Golden Retriever and Lab mix. Rudy has enjoyed his walks each day. Deb tells us he won’t take treats so far, except at 5pm happy hour on the couch with them! Rudy does snuggle, and he likes their cheese! Yesterday, Deb saw her first glimpse of shear stubbornness which Pam his foster mom had explained. Deb wanted to take him for a walk but Rudy wanted to wait for Jeff to come home. Once he was home, wagging his tail he went for a walk with Jeff. Rudy went for a car ride and enjoyed sniffing around their local park. Debbie and Jeff are trilled to have him in their home and know it will take time for him to adjust. ~ Jeff & Debbie

Magnolia

Maggie is doing great! She is so, so sweet and so smart.  We took her to the vet yesterday, and everyone was besotted with her. She had a mild ear infection that we’re treating but otherwise was in perfect health!  She loves to play, run, and chew! She is learning what are her toys and what are
the kids’ toys. We are doing lots of long walks and games of fetch.
We love her so much. Thanks for bringing her into our family! And sorry the pictures are of her sleeping. It’s the only time we can get her still enough to take a picture haha. ~ Hollye

Charlie Brown

Picture
Happily Adopted!

Charlie is doing great! We made our first trip to the vet yesterday morning & his health is perfect! My vet commented numerous times about what a good looking dog Charlie is & opined that Charlie has chow along with lab in him. And he agreed that Charlie is probably 2+ years old.  Right now, he is very much a velcro dog, seeking constant attention & following me wherever I go in the house.  Every day I can see that he is adjusting ever so slightly, as we all know this is a process for rescues & after all that he has been through, I'll let him adjust at his own pace. I've enclosed some pix from Charlie's first couple of days as a New Jersey resident! ~ Bill

Harry

Picture
Happily Adopted!
Harry is doing great. We can see him getting a little more comfortable every day. He’s getting along with my cats. The cats aren’t so sure about him! lol  I contacted our vet to make an appointment. They need his paperwork before we schedule the visit so Harry and I will take a ride over there tomorrow to drop off his information. Thank you, Heike, Harry’s foster mom, for everything! ~ Barbara

Bleu

Picture
Happily Adopted!

We have had 3 good days & nights. Blue, yes we have kept the name, still not sure about the spelling, is doing well and is as much a joy as he is full of energy.  We are trying to establish a routine and so far so good. We have walk options and so far he likes all. We introduced him to our neighbor retrievers & they had a ball together. We will have playtime in our fenced yard. He is a real looker & popular on walks through town. His coat coloration looks like his genetics are displayed in some sort of order. We are thrilled & are reading up on training. Bleu has definitely been taught the commands "sit" and "stay" which is great.  We are reinforcing those commands in many settings He is quite responsive as you know. He is more trained than our earlier rescues. All in all, we are thrilled to have him in our family!  ~ Joe & Carolyn

Everything is going so well!   Buddy has been absolutely perfect and we can't believe what a good boy he is!  He settled in quickly, sleeping nicely in his bed every night.  The kids came home to meet him over the weekend and just fell in love with him.  He's also met some other family members, as well as our trainer\boarder and our dog walker.  He's so much fun to watch play.   We've learned that if you bounce a tennis ball that he'll bounce and prance after it.   And he's starting to bring it back so we can throw it again.   He's very much a pack dog, always wanting to be wherever we are.  All in all, everything is going very well!  And we're VERY quickly falling in love with this guy! ~ Jon & Caren

Flossie

Picture

Happily Adopted!
She is wonderful! Only here for a few days and she knows the lay of the land already. She is the sweetest dog, just loves to cuddle and give kisses. She was definitely well trained. She is so gentle and loving.  Flossie follows me everywhere. She has been introduced to my sister and my friend and she bonded right away.  I was very impressed by the way your group handles these rescues. You all care very much for the dogs you take in. It was a good find & a good fit for me. ~ Pauline

Bear

Doing well, just a couple of spats, (to be expected).  These were 2nd
day. Eating well and loves to run and explore his new yard.  Vet visit
this week! ~ Susan

Roscoe

Picture
Happily Adopted!
Roscoe is doing great! He was in need of some TLC 😊 We De-matted an entire dog’s worth of fur off of him, we had his ears treated and we are waiting for some guidance on his elbows. He is definitely going on a diet too! Interestingly, his records have 4 different birthdays, but it does look like he’s a bit older than we thought! He will be turning 7 this year.  All in all, he and Teddy are getting along just fine and are getting used to each other a bit more each day. He’s an absolute love. We are so glad
he gets to be spoiled rotten in our home for the rest of his life. ~ Cameron

Dude

Picture
Happily Adopted!
Dude, now Jax, is doing great - he had his first grooming appointment today and did very well. He starts obedience training tomorrow. It is a beautiful day & I am working on the porch outside while he lays at my feet. He is a very sweet boy.  It’s been very busy! He has been having few accidents in the house, so I am trying to catch him in the act. If I scold him, he lays down & gives me his belly- so it’s so hard to be serious!  ~ Renee

Luna

Picture
Happily Adopted!

Things are going extremely well with Luna! She is absolutely perfect and the sweetest little lady! She made friends with my in-law’s lab and our neighbor’s dog as well. We absolutely adore Luna and she is getting along so well here. She is better than I ever could have imagined and I love her so much! ~ Amanda

Trixie

Picture
Happily Adopted!

Trixie has become my little shadow and sleeps with me at night.  She gets along great with the kids and loves Brianna. When I am at work - she will hang out in Brianna’s bed while she does her homework.  Her favorite spot is looking out the back door.  She is so very alert and curious!  She is just a love! ~ Linda

Shadrach

Picture
Happily Adopted!
It's going well.  He was nuts the first two days but has mellowed considerably.  He and Charlie are doing OK, still getting to know each other.  He is a toy destroyer!  Charlie had a big basket of soft toys he just carried around, but Henry shreds them. On to more durable toys for him. He knows stairs, so he was an indoor dog at some point.  I also think he knows the word "no".  He mostly stops when you say it to him.  We are getting him into routines, which helps.  He loves the yard. We know he's going to be a wonderful dog. ~ Bruce

Sam

Picture
Happily Adopted!

Thank you again to the team for coordinating getting him up here! He seems to be settling in well. He *loves* going for walks, so it's going to take a slight bit of time for us all to find the schedule that works for both of us. I can't exactly take him on a walk every hour even if he wants to, haha!! My brother sent him a "welcome home box" and he immediately grabbed a stuffed toy out of the box, so he definitely loves his toys.  My wife just got home and he is already sitting with her - he is starting to accept us as his family now!  ~ Chris

Ladee

Picture
Happily Adopted!
Ladee (we are spelling her name Lady) has turned our lives upside down! We’ve only known geriatric, three-legged loving for the past few years!😊 She has so much energy, Venus just doesn’t know what to do with her (and she’s aways trying to clean Venus’ ears). Lady has yet to have an accident which I’m amazed at. Lady likes to hug and enjoys sitting on the kitchen table, so she begins her etiquette class on April 10. We are working on her leash skills as well. She loves meeting all the neighborhood dogs. Even Silas, a Pointer that likes NO ONE and barks at everyone, likes her. They were bopping noses yesterday. Doing stairs threw her for a loop but she almost has that mastered. Bert & Ernie, our cats, are starting to venture out from their hiding places but as soon as she catches a glimpse of them, she gets so excited and scares them away. So that’s going to take some time. She loves to be loved and is just perfect. She brought life and laughter back into our house (with a touch of chaos) after our Miss Mhina left us. Thank you all for making this happen for our family. I just love my Sunshine girls!  ~ Alicia

Beckett

Picture
Happily Adopted!

Beckett seems to be settling in very nice. He’s a very curious and loving dog and we look forward to many memories with him. Thank you all for helping out and the work you do!  ~ Adam

Laihla

Picture
Happily Adopted!

Laihla, who is now Tori, is doing great!  She is loving, eager to please and is really smart!  She is very relaxed, and I do think she knows she is home!   She is conquering her fear of cats, and now knows, Casey is all hiss and no action!  She and Desi are getting along well, and Tori has been very respectful and gives him space when her zoomies get a little crazy!  We are working on house training and realize gates are not going to keep this little lady in one place!   She loves to jump over gates! There may be a crate in her future especially when we head out! She loves her stuffed toys and chewies and so far has been very respectful to furniture! She is eating well, and we are all bonding and learning from each other every day.  She loves her walks and does well on the leash.  She met our daughters today and she was the perfect little lady, greeting them warmly while trying really hard not to jump up.  I want to thank Sunshine and all the volunteers for bringing this special dog into our life.  ~ Margie

Caleb

Picture
Happily Adopted!

Things are going great. Caleb definitely is still a bit cautious, but he’s made himself at home sitting on the coach with me. We’ve even earned some of the little licks Tina (his foster mom up North) mentioned.  Caleb and Ellie are doing well - they were just snuggled next to each other a few minutes ago. She’s still hoping for him to play with her, but that will come I’m sure. ~ Alex & Bailey

Teddie

Picture
Happily Adopted!
These two are a match made in heaven!!!!!! Thank you so so much for choosing us to be Teddie’s pawrents!!!!  ~ Christine & Austin

Ginger

She is doing great. What a sweet dog! She’s having a lot of fun in snow. She is eating ok though did not finish all of her dinner maybe due to all the changes for her. Will keep an eye on this. She is sleeping through the night, lots of walks and cuddles. ~ Meghan

Marvin

Picture
Happily Adopted!
We are making some progress. He’s sleeping a bit better. He goes between his bed and the bedroom couch. He had a few pee accidents, but now we are learning a new routine so far today - no accidents.  We also left him free roam this morning when my husband drove me to the bus station. He was totally fine. He was sleeping on the sofa when he got back. We think he is adjusting it just takes time and patience. We really want this to work for Marvin. We do think professional training will be needed but that will need to wait a few weeks as we don’t want to overwhelm. He saw his 1st deer pass by our backyard. He was beyond excited.  ~ Gilda & Ed

Mya

Picture
Happily Adopted!
Mya has found her forever home in Rhode Island with Mary & Donna, who are prior adopters.  She has a 3-year-old sibling named Ruthie who she enjoys playing with.  We are settling in well! Mya is such a love!  ~ Mary

Rudy

Picture
Happily Adopted!
Thank you for bringing us Rudy!  He is probably the sweetest dog we have ever had.  He wants nothing more than to be close to his humans and thinks he is a lapdog.  As soon as any of us sit down, he is right there to cuddle.  He fit right in with Charlie, our other dog, and I love watching them race around the backyard.  We definitely need to work on his leash skills but so far, we are having a blast exploring the neighborhood.  Thank you to everyone who helped bring Rudy to us.
