Re-homing your dog...
Surrendering a beloved family pet is a heartbreaking situation for anyone. At Sunshine Golden Retriever Rescue, we recognize that life changes and unexpected circumstances can happen to anyone, often leaving no alternative but to re-home the family pet. Our goal is to assist dog owners in finding a loving home for their Golden, Golden Mix, or Golden-hearted dog of any age who MUST relinquish a dog.
While remaining sensitive to how difficult a decision this solution can be for everyone involved, we ask that you consider the following before contacting us: Your dog deserves to be treated with decency and respect. Losing their home and humans is very traumatic to most dogs, and we ask that you consider all reasonable possibilities for keeping your dog. This may include consulting a behavioral trainer to determine if any behavioral issues may be remedied, or it may be that your veterinarian can help. Our Intake coordinators may be able to provide references or alternatives to help your dog remain in your home, with you. Please email us if you would like guidance in keeping your dog.
Although we would like to help all dogs, due to insurance and liability restrictions, we are unable to accept a dog from a private individual, shelter, or rescue with a history of aggressive behavior toward humans and/or other dogs. We are unable to accept dogs with a bite history and/or with food or toy/bone possessiveness. We may also have limited foster space available at any given time, limiting our ability to accept a dog.
If you have no option and must surrender your dog, please follow the steps below:
~Complete our intake form along with the authorization to release vet records.
~Call your vet and request all medical history be faxed to 609-257-6030.
~Email at least 3 quality photos of your dog to SGRRdogs@gmail.com
From that point, you will be contacted by a SGRR Intake coordinator.
Our dedicated volunteers will guide surrendering owners through our process, helping to ensure that everything moves in a timely fashion. Extensive information is gathered on any dog that Sunshine considers taking into our rescue. This includes photographs, vet records, and an in-home evaluation of the dog. From there, our team will notify the owner if Sunshine feels that they are able to accept the dog into our rescue. At that point, an Owner Surrender Form is completed by the owner and the Sunshine team begins the process of rehoming the dog. A dog might be directly adopted, or in some cases the dog would go to an experienced SGRR foster home until the right adopter is found.
We hope you will consider all options available to you and your dog. Please email us if you have any questions.
