New to SGRR...?
Want to Learn More About Us...?
We at Sunshine Golden Retriever Rescue take the job of finding the best possible forever homes for our dogs very seriously. The adoption process is thorough so that we can learn as much as possible about those to whom we entrust our precious pups. Once a dog is placed with an approved adopter, they are welcomed into the SGRR family and given the tools and support to make the adoption successful. We have gathered comments from some of our adopters who are happy to tell you how they feel about us!
Max
We have had nothing but a positive experience with our rescue from Sunshine. Our 14 year old beagle had passed away in Nov of '20 and we were going to wait to get a dog. That being said it was the first winter of Covid so my husband was working from home. We decided what better time to get a dog! We were a little hesitant with getting a rescue because we have two kids, ages 6 and 10, and didn't know how the rescue or the kids would be together. Our Max was matched to us perfectly! The staff at SGRR answered all of our questions on phone and email, spoke to my kids on a virtual call before finalizing our adoption. It was easy and gave us some comfort. They assured us Max would be a great match and was great with kids and they couldn't have been more right. He was house trained and crate trained when we got him and knew some commands. He also is very polite and never jumps on anyone when he first meets them but rather sits and offers his paw My 6 year old, who was hesitant with dogs, has never now felt more comfortable and loves him more than everything. So we thank Sunshine Golden everyday for our blessing and furry friend!

Rainey
Over the years, we have had many dogs, including 4 Golden Retrievers (not at the same time!). After we lost our last Golden, we decided that we wanted to adopt a dog and so we started our search. We stumbled upon SGRR, were impressed with the organization, and decided to begin the application process. We filled out the paperwork, arranged to be interviewed, and were delighted to be approved. Then we started looking at the dogs that were available and saw one with the most incredible eyes!! She was described as being small and a good fit for an "older" owner. However, we learned that she had already been spoken for; we kept on looking at the other dogs. Within a week or two, however, we were contacted by SGRR and told that the adoption didn't work out because the family cat didn't like Rainey!! Were we still interested? Of course we were!! When we met her my husband's first reaction was, "She's so little!" She looked up at him, jumped into his lap, and the rest is history!
Rainey has been a wonderful addition to our family for the past 5 years. She's incredibly affectionate, is a dog with a sense of humor, is well-behaved, and a joy to have around. Golden Retriever? Maybe a little bit, but perhaps some Cocker Spaniel and Dachshund, as well. And, yes, what first attracted us to her and, as you can see by her pictures, those eyes!! We thank you again for bringing her into our lives.

Bella
We have always had golden retrievers. We adopted them from the Seeing Eye in Morristown, NJ. After my golden Fancy passed in January, 2017, we were distraught. Then I stumbled upon Sunshine Golden Retriever Rescue. I would read all the stories of these beautiful dogs and become very sad. My son Michael insisted that we rescue a dog instead of going the previous path. I of course was looking for a pure Golden. We read about the black dog syndrome. We fell in love with Lady, a black retriever mix, and we were hooked. Cheryl, the foster mother sent us daily updates about Bella. We couldn't wait for her to come . The staff, volunteers, fostering, etc. were absolutely amazing people. They truly love these dogs and want to give them their forever home. If you are considering a rescue, please read their story. They are an amazing rescue organization, Lacy, now Bella has been with us for 4 years. She is the most loving, affectionate dog. Rescue is the way to go. No dog left behind.
Thank you all so very much.

Bryce & Bella
Our family is grateful for all you did to help us be adopted a few years ago. We are loving being CT Yankees, and we cherish our forever family. It has been a difficult year. We have been chemo coaches for Mom and companions for Grandma who is now in Hospice. Even so, there is joy in every day as well as walks and treats and plenty of ear rubs. Our tails wag and our eyes shine. We know that this placement has blessed our lives as well as our family's.
We have gotten a little whiter around the eyes, but we’re still puppy energetic. Thank you for placing us in our forever home here in CT. Life is good and we try to be good too! ~Bryce and Bella

She is the sweetest, most loving girl & we feel very blessed to be her forever parents & we think she's pretty happy here too! I want to thank everyone involved in our adoption. I hope I don't leave anyone out, as they were all so wonderful & helpful through our adoption process, Ava Pillinger, Sue Warga, Jane and John Connor, Kim O'Brien & Candy Van Sciver. Thank you for picking our our golden treasure, Ally and choosing Tom & I as her forever parents. Sarah, Roxie and Sasha
We are repeat adopters from Sunshine Golden Retriever Rescue since March of 2007. We adopted our golden Sasha who was 6 months old at that time. We took our then 4 month old golden Maggie with us to pick up Sasha and they took to each other instantly. I remember the two of them sitting in the back seat of our van sleeping contently on each side of my daughter. The entire adoption experience was so wonderful that I became a volunteer and started doing vet checks, potential adopter interviews and home visits to help place other dogs into a loving environment. In 2011 we adopted Roxie and she was yet another great addition to our family . in November of 2018 we adopted 13 week old Sarah from sunshine golden retriever rescue. All of our dogs are rescues and 3 of them have been from Sunshine Golden Retriever Rescue. The adoption process thru SGRR is very thorough. They do the very best screening possible to place each and every dog with the right loving forever home. They have saved so many dogs that would have otherwise had some very sad endings and provided them with everything needed in order for them to have the happy lives that they deserve. Not to mention the dogs that are in forever foster care due to medical conditions that prevents them from being adopted that sunshine provides the medical care for. The Sunshine family of volunteers is a very dedicated family!

Tallulah
We had a great experience adopting through Sunshine. Our Tallulah is the sweetest girl! After approving us, Sunshine put a lot of effort into making sure that we were matched with a dog that suited our needs. We have a cat, and Sunshine cat-tested all of the dogs under consideration for us. Sunshine patiently answered or many questions throughout the adoption process. Tallulah’s transition from Alabama to our home in New York went smoothly because Sunshine provided excellent step-by-step guidance about how to prepare for her arrival, whet to expect on the day that she arrived and how to help her acclimate to her new home. We highly recommend Sunshine!

Ginger
We rescued our girl Ginger in 2011. The process was very thorough to ensure the rescue was placed in the best home for them and the adopting person/ family. Since neither my husband or I had a dog in many, many years, the process might have taken a bit longer. But it was explained to us and we were over the moon when we received information there was a dog they felt would be a good match for us and her. It was. We met her at the transport and right way she melted our hearts. The next morning when she greeted us with toy in hand, tail wagging, it felt like she had been a member of the family forever. We continued and still do continue to give back to SGRR thru vet checks, phone interviews, home visits and meeting new rescue families at the transport as they meet their SGRR dog. Watching all the people meet their new family member is uplifting. And when you get home, there is nothing so welcoming as walking in the door and your fur baby is waiting to greet you. And the same holds true when you have those maybe not so perfect or exhausting days, you walk in the house and there is your fur baby, tail wagging and toy in hand waiting to greet you, as you are the world to them.

Copper & Corina
When we were looking to adopt, we applied to 2 different rescues. The first had a
fee for applying and never got back to us. Sunshine Golden was no fee to apply, and got back to us within a week, even though we applied between Christmas
and New Year. By Feb 5 we had our 2 sweet dogs. The whole process went so
smoothly. We were informed of everything - from their vet visits to the transport
from down south, every step of the way. We are so happy with this rescue group
we will definitely adopt again!

We have adopted 2 dogs through SGRR. Our first was in 2010 and the second in 2018. We found SGRR to be professional and very focused on the well being of the dogs they rescue. They are also very supportive of adopters. We were so impressed that we volunteered to do telephone interviews and home studies for prospective adopters. Their process is very thorough, but that promotes adoptions to the right forever homes.

Carley
I can remember thinking ”wow this has a lot of steps to adopt!” Thank God! Sunshine cares about their fur babies and wants the BEST for their rescues! I can remember when my sweet Carley came down that ramp ❤️ she was so excited getting into our car. She knew, "my forever family!” We adopted her as a senior (maybe 6-7 years old) that was 2012. She’s still as sweet as can be and has not one health issue and although she’s slowed a bit, who hasn’t! Thank you Sunshine. I loved SGRR so much I now volunteer for them!!

Toby & Peyton
We adopted Peyton ten years ago from Sunshine. We were really impressed with the very comprehensive adoption process Sunshine had. After we were approved, we spoke with the wonderful foster who had Peyton, met him, and he came home with us. Three years ago we adopted Toby, who was coming up on the transport. A Sunshine volunteer helped us though the pick-up process, and it was so worth it – it was love at first sight when he walked off the truck! We are so grateful to Sunshine, and they are always there when we have questions. I would happily recommend Sunshine to anyone looking to adopt a great dog!
