Karla's Kids
On Christmas Day, Miss Karla collapsed in her yard and passed away in her neighbor's arms. Miss Karla lived in a rural, swampy area of Louisiana. Her home was surrounded by wetlands, marshes, bayous, pampas grass, and alligators. She had no children, was not married, and her brother wanted no part of the 20+ dogs she left behind. SGRR took in 6 dogs from this rescue endeavor. These sweet souls are Goldens, Golden mixes, Bassett Hounds, Dachshunds, and combinations of all the aforementioned. They range in ages from 1 to 8 years. We have named them Jesse, Gus, Pam, Jeffrey, Martha, and Danny.
Jeffrey - Adoption Pending!
Oh Jeffrey, you little heart-throb, you! Just look at that face! Jeffrey has all the features of a golden retriever... all except for one - his legs! Jeffrey wound up with basset hound-like legs when the DNA went round and round in the mix! We think they make him incredibly unique and very endearing!
Jeffrey is a shy boy, like most dogs who come from hoarding situations. He sits quietly while you pet him and is learning that affection is something he can expect to have from this point forward in his life. When our Lisa took Jeffrey outside on a leash with a visiting dog, his tail was wagging and he was hopping around with happiness. In time, Jeffrey will become a wonderful companion and will learn about being treasured.
Jeffrey is about 1.5 years-old. This adorable boy weighs about 30 lbs, but could do well with another 10 pounds on his frame. He has been neutered, brought up-to-date on vaccinations, and is micro-chipped. Because Jeffrey's former owner did not have him on heartworm prevention, he tested positive for heartworm and is currently under treatment. He should be ready to be adopted in late February to early March. If your specialty is TLC and you are approved to adopt through SGRR, contact Donna to be considered to adopt this adorable little man. If not yet approved, please fill out an application to be considered. A physically fenced yard is required for all of Karla's Kids and a canine companion in his adoptive home is also needed.
Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to take on whatever comes with the dog. It is up to YOU to continue the rehabilitation we have begun. This is what it means to rescue.
