Pam - Adoption Pending!
Pam is the senior of the six dogs Sunshine took in as part of the major rescue endeavor, just after Christmas, to help the 24 dogs left by Miss Karla in Louisiana’s bayou country. Estimated to be 8 years old and a Golden Retriever mix, she was terrified when she first arrived at our vet clinic and would not leave her kennel or look at humans directly. However, when our Vet examined Pam she was a good girl and tolerated it without any sign of wanting to bite. We knew she just needed time to adjust. Then, her Karla’s Kids friend Jeffrey, who is staying at the same clinic, was brought into her kennel and both of them started to do SO much better! Now Pam will look at you, enjoys taking treats, and walks in and out of the kennel to the outdoors area along with Jeffrey. She even enjoyed eating a cheeseburger from our volunteer Lisa’s hand.
Pam (or Pammy) has a thick, rich dark-gold coat and the cutest teddy-bear ears! She is a sweet, submissive dog whose inner soul is starting to show through. She has started to enjoy the happy things most dogs love, such as being petted and spoken to. She is most comfortable with another dog nearby and, as for all of Karla’s Kids, a canine companion in her adoptive home is strongly preferred. Due to the dogs’ lifelong habit of wandering the
bayou country around their former home, a physically fenced yard is also required for Pam. Pam has been vaccinated, spayed and micro-chipped. She is beginning heartworm treatment and will be ready for her home in mid-March. We will post updates as her sweet personality continues to emerge.
Pam may require extra TLC as she settles into her new home as we expect her to be shy until she feels secure. She grabs your heart and is so worth the time she may need. If you would like to be part of Pam’s rescue story, please contact the adoption committee to be considered. If not yet approved, please fill out an application to be considered. Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to continue the rehabilitation we have begun.
