This handsome boy is Charlie, FKA Matlock. He ended up at Mobile County Shelter in Alabama and no one came to claim him. But no worries, Charlie has a wonderful new home with prior adopters Pat and Bruce and is living in New York.
Bruce tells us that Charlie is settling in well. He gets along well with Bridgett, his new canine sibling, although Charlie is more amenable to the relationship that Bridgett. He would love to play and she has no interest. Charlie has calmed down a lot since he arrived at their home. They think a normal routine has helped him. He is rambunctious and he loves to chew and likes paper. He will hunt down any tissue wherever he can find it. He loves his bacon Nylabone and stuffed Kongs are his favorite. They use a crate when they go out, which he must have used at some point because he goes right in and lays down. Getting dressed with Charlie in the room is a challenge. He thinks it is playing. As you pull your pants on, he grabs the leg and pulls it off. We laughed out loud at that!!! Bruce said forget about the socks and shoes! He said it is hard to say no to him when he is laughing so hard. They now try to keep the bedroom door closed while they get dressed. Just hysterical! He has made friends with their neighbors and the two dogs next door. His walking continue to improve. He is a willful dog. He can sit, down, and stay on his walks so he is doing good with distractions. Sometimes he will resist but he knows what he is supposed to be doing and Bruce will wait him out and he does it, but not without complaint. Charlie will yawn and whine when he has to stay and does not want to! They had snow a couple of weeks ago and Charlie did not know what it was. He walked out gingerly and sniffed it, then he tasted it. Then after a few minutes of sniffing and tasting it, all of a sudden he took off running and doing laps in the yard. They think he is going to love playing in the snow when they get a significant amount. Sounds like Charlie is quite the character, but how happy does he look in the second picture! Love the other pictures - he looks quite at home! Happy life to Charlie, you deserve it!

How adorable are these two! This is Jack and Gilly, FKA Bishop and Haley, who were a bonded pair when they came to SGRR. Thanks to their awesome new forever Mom, Jack and Gilly did not have to be separated! Jack and Gilly are living in New York with their Mom, Lynn.
Lynn tells us that Jack and Gilly have settled in well and she is adjusting to their ways, but they seem really happy! The pictures above are their favorite things to do which includes wrestling and barking! Lynn is so grateful to Sunshine for Jack and Gilly! Happy life to Jack and Gilly! This handsome boy is Leo, whose previous owner passed away, and her son felt he could not give Leo the time and attention he deserved. Leo was brought to the Humane Society in Wetumpka, AL., but they could see what a special dog Leo was and SGRR was contacted.
Leo is making his forever home with Jen and Tom and living in Connecticut. Jen tells us that Leo is doing great! Happy life to Leo! This is Shelby (FKA Sissy). Shelby ended up in a shelter in Atmore County, AL and no one came to claim her. But Shelby has a wonderful new forever home with Lori and Tom in MA.
Tom tells us that Shelby is doing really well! When they first brought her into the house, it was almost like she knew she was where she belonged. She and Eddie (their other dog) get along great! Not long after they got Shelby, Eddie tore his ACL chasing their neighbor's dog back and forth along the fence line. Shelby was very patient while he recovered and they are now back to running around the back yard together. Tom says for the most part, Shelby is a very quiet dog. She does not bark much, but recently has begun to "talk" when she is happy. Tom and Lori's oldest daughter is a Vet and she was able to clean her teeth, and remove two teeth and now she is eating much better. Their daughter wants to steal Shelby! Their youngest daughter lives in Alaska and on a recent visit met Shelby for the first time. She said that Shelby is the happiest dog she has ever seen! Her tail is always wagging and she really enjoys being wherever they are. Shelby has been going to obedience training so she could socialize with other dogs and she was one of the favorites in the class! At home, Shelby's favorite room is their 3 season room, even though it is getting a little chilly now! She is the picture of contentment there or sleeping on the living room couch! Tom says he is so impressed with the way SGRR works and has actually has begun to volunteer with phone interviews, virtual home visits and vet checks. He has also helped on two private transports and he is enjoying these volunteer opportunities!. Welcome Tom, thanks for volunteering! Tom and Lori assure us that Shelby is enjoying the life every rescue dog deserves! How content does Akaka look (FKA Bonnie Tapioca)? They picked the name Akaka because it partly means red in Japanese, for the red behind her ears. Akaka's former owners were moving and they turned Akaka into a high kill shelter in Louisiana. But thankfully, Akaka has a wonderful new home with Gabbi and Tristan and she is now a Jersey girl.
Gabbi tells us that Akaka is an intelligent, curious pup. She is eating well and they spoil her! Akaka has a big brother, Siloh. They get along great and have a big brother, little sister relationship. Akaka also has a BFF, an Aussie named Winter, that she sees weekly on hikes and walks. Akaka loves her walks and on street walking does best on a gentle leader. For hikes they use a harness and a long leash. Her behavior has improved and continues to improve with training. She has a little stuffed rabbit that she carries around and sleeps with. They feel so blessed to have Akaka part of their family! These 2 black beauties are Justine and Jaxson, who are making their forever home with Gwen and Bart and living in CT.
Gwen tells us that Jaxson and Justine are such a blessing! They are really settling in well as they all learn more about each other. It is just fascinating. Jaxson had separation anxiety issues at first, but he is a lot better now! Justine has warmed up to them also. They are both affectionate and Jax is such a snuggle bug. And he knows how to give you "the look" when he has to go out! Bart walks Jax two times a day for longer walks and takes the two of them on shorter walks. They often meet their dog friend Lola. Justine likes to stop and admire the scenery along the way. They love to run around in their fenced in yard and greet the neighborhood. They would stay out there all day if they let them. If Jax goes out and Jussie is not ready, he will come to get her - so cute. The yard is where they really expend their extra energy. Justine can really take off and run! Justine is quite the digger too! It is interesting to see them forage, especially Justine and Gwen thinks that is how they survived in Alabama. J & J do a lot of wrestling play fighting and Justine instigates quite a bit. They are really good about retreating when they get too rough. Jussie wants to wrestle a lot more than Jax and they have "conversations" over it! She calls to him and he answers her. Gwen says that it is the cutest thing. Just as their foster Anita noticed, Jax and Jussie also love to de-stuff toys and chew them and to tear cardboard and paper. Justine is the bigger and the better eater by far. They get them "pup cups" from Walnut Beach Creamery with plain yogurt, honey, peanut butter, and topped with a dog biscuit. Jussie eats hers and then finishes Jaxson's. Gwen and Bart have learned that Jaxson does not like wheels and Jussie is afraid of them. They bark at skateboarders and bicyclists. When a friend who has MS, and is in a wheelchair, came to visit it took soft talk and a few treats for them to warm up. Both are also amazingly intuitive when someone is upset. Justine, who is shy, went right up to Gwen's friend and nuzzled her, like she knew she was sad that she recently lost her cat. Jaxson and Justine's foster family is planning to come for a visit soon and Jaxson and Justine will also be starting training this month. They were having a hard time getting a trainer due to the pandemic. Bart and Gwen are just thrilled that Jaxson and Justine are part of their family! They are just a delight from wake to sleep! Happy life to Jaxson and Justine! This pretty girl is Luna, who came to Sunshine from Louisiana as her parents were getting divorced. Luna has a terrific new forever home living with Ben and Maureen in CT.
Ben tells us that Luna is doing great and they are so glad that Luna is part of her family! Ben says they found out that they are not great photographers and Luna knows when the camera is on her and tends to move right then. But we think the photos are great! Luna has made lots of new friends in town. She loves taking walks through the town and on the nearby trails. Luna keeps Ben company during the day by sitting and laying next to him when he is on his work calls. Luna is so patient when their youngest daughter Primrose scoops out Luna's meals - so cute! Luna sleeps in their room and loves being round their family! Happy life to Luna! Handsome is Goose (FKA Holden) was left behind when his family moved. Thankfully, neighbors fed him for a couple of weeks and then SGRR was contacted.
Goose has an incredible new home with Janice and her family in CT. Janice tells me that Goose is doing wonderfully. He settled in beautifully. They adore him and they are thankful that they found each other. He has never had an accident in the house nor touched anything he shouldn't. He is the perfect gentleman. He eats well and has met some of Janice's children's dogs. Goose gets along real well with them, even the puppy her son recently adopted. Goose is such a mellow fluff ball of love! Although they live on a lake Goose has not shown any interest in the water yet. Maybe next summer - Janice will see if he wants to try and go in. Goose loves watching the boats and the ducks on the lake. He really just enjoys sitting outside with them. Janice is wondering how he will do with the snow this winter. He is doing great with his mobility and it does not seem to hinder. Their Vet thinks he is the sweetest dog and they would like to thank everyone at SGRR for everything. This is their second adoption from Sunshine, and once again they are so happy! This is beautiful Missy (FKA Jesse) who is making her forever home with Dot and Larry and living in MA. Dot tells us that Missy arrived at their house trembling with her tail between her legs. Her former owner of two years had taken her to the vet thinking it was time to put her to sleep because she was wound up despite the multitude of anti-anxiety drugs she was given. Fortunately, the vet was familiar with SGRR and talked to the owner about bringing her to SGRR.
Little by little Missy has relaxed. They have stopped the drugs and given her lots of love!! They learned that she was noise phobic to storms and high flying jets. Now after 11 weeks she is an entirely different dog. She is still worried about storms and jets but no longer terrified by them. Missy is the belle of the dog park, greeting all the dogs and the people. Everyone there knows her and comments on what a happy dog she is. She loves to run, play fetch and swim - all with a bouncy enthusiasm. She is surprisingly very well trained and responsive to commands. She is so so sweet and loves belly rubs. Dot and Larry just adore her and they cannot figure out how anyone could think she was "wound up". They feel so lucky that she landed on their doorstep. They have promised her a wonderful life from now on!! We are so happy for Missy and her wonderful new forever family. Happy life to Missy! This is Paul, who came from a shelter in Baldwin County, AL., and is making his forever home with Jeana and Matt in CT. Jeana and Matt tell us that Paul has settled in wonderfully and loves playing with his older brother, Griff! He loves going to the park and they say he is the fastest dog that they have ever seen. They have many friends with dogs and Paul loves to socialize with them all. Paul is very well socialized and does well meeting new friends! They love their Paulie!
Happy life to Paulie and his new family! |
