Rose tells us that he is a good dog and she is very happy for him and her!

This is Millie who made her forever home with Dorian and Chris last summer. A couple of weeks ago Dorian and Chris went back home to be married in New York. Unfortunately, Hurricane Isaias hit and they had no power for the 5 days preceding the wedding. Thankfully, neighbors had offered a generator, but the power came back on the night before the wedding at 9:00.
Look how beautiful everything was! Millie looks so proud! ![]() This cutie is Izzy, FKA Panda, who is making her forever home with previous adopters David and Carol and living in MA. Carol tells us that Izzy is a wonderful addition to their family. She loves to cuddle, then zero to full ZOOM in seconds. She loves to play with every dog she meets. They are in their third week of training, as she is quite spirited and strong willed so training is going slow. Even though she is super smart! Carol said that Izzy is a wonderful addition to their family and they are very glad that is Izzy is theirs! Tango came from a shelter in Troy, AL and is making his forever home with Neil and Tracey and living in NJ.
Tracey tells me that Tango is a wonderful dog and many a passer-by will comment on what a handsome brute he is. Not only has he made himself a member of the family but he has also made many human and doggy friends. He is always happy for a playdate to run around. He has grown more confident over the months, even jumping into the streams and taking car trips. He is not a fan of getting bathed, he is a big stinker! He hikes, goes on long walks, can doggy paddle in shallow water and he even jump up onto the sofa, even if he is not supposed to! LOL Tango has a limp, but the vet said with regular exercise he will be fine. They have moved up the road and Tango approves as he sees the wild turkey and sleeps on carpeted floors! Tracey would like to thank everyone for bringing Tango to them. She said it is hard to believe that he has not always been there with them. Happy life to Tango, sounds like he is living his best life and he deserves it! This pretty girl is Maggie, FKA Melrose/Melly, who was a stray brought to the shelter in Tuscaloosa, AL. Maggie has a wonderful new home and living with Catherine in NJ.
Catherine tells me that Maggie is doing fine! She would spend 24 hours outdoors if she could. Her coat has grown in beautifully and she has gained weight. Catherine tells me that she has talked to more neighbors since she got Maggie than for the 10 years that she has been living there! Some people have asked if she is fostering Maggie because she thinks people want to her adopt her!! She is very lovable! Happy life to Maggie! ![]() This beautiful girl is Chloe FKA Nellie Mae. Chloe was found as a stray in Tuscaloosa, AL and is now making her forever home with Laura and Richard and their family in CT. Laura tells me that Chloe is a happy, playful and sweet dog that has adjusted well to their family! She is so loving and follows them around, snuggling whenever she can. She eats well. Laura said she can see that at some point she must have been starving because she eats like she will never get a meal again. At the vets suggestion they add water to her food to help her slow down. Laura is also teaching her to sit and wait for her bowl to be placed down instead of jumping up and walking on her hind legs!!! Chloe has accepted the fact that her oldest canine sibling is in charge and has learned not to stick her head in her food bowl. She is a fast learner! She loves running around with her new pack. They adore her and they are so glad that she has joined their family. She would like to thank everyone at SGRR for all the good work that they do! ![]() We love getting updates on our SGRR dogs! We recently got this note from SGRR adopter and volunteer Nancy... Recently we marked the nine year anniversary of the day Garrett stepped off the transport and joined my small family. He had been found somewhere in Alabama wandering the streets, so flea ridden and allergic that he only had a line of hair going down his back. I was told that either Martha or Lisa Hume had come to this particular shelter to pick up another dog. When one of them asked about Garrett, she was told that no one would want him and that he was going to be put down the next day. Sunshine, of course, picked him up, treated him for heart worm and fostered him until it was time for his journey to Connecticut. From the day he arrived until now he has brought company to his brother, Chaucer and affection and sweetness to me and my extended family. The amazing part of Garrett's story is that it's not unique. It's Sunshine's story, multiplied by the hundreds of families and dogs blessed by our group. I am so proud to be a part of such a wonderful organization. So thank you, thank you Sunshine for my wonderful Garrett who lies curled against me as I write this. ![]() A note from Mary's mom... "Just letting you know Mary is doing great! It's like she's always lived here. She is in a nice daily routine but enjoys her surprise visits to the beach on occasion. I think she may have a funky ear so we have to visit the vet again but that's ok....she loved the attention she got there. My daughter adopted a dog around the same time I did. Unfortunately this rescue was not as organized as SGRR as they had so much miscommunication and lack of medical information for this pup. It made me appreciate how wonderful SGRR truly is because of all the hard work and dedication of people like you guys....so thank you for bringing not one...but two beautiful fur babies into my life. Mary and my daughters dog Brady both came to show their support at the Wounded Vet Run a few weeks back...Mary is sporting her attire for the day :) and apparently...she likes watching All in the Family!" ![]() Shadow has officially been with us 9 months today. We have successfully completed 2 training classes which have helped build his confidence. His diplomas are proudly displayed. He is a wonderful dog! He loves to help with the laundry by dragging socks to the washer. His hearing and smell are exceptional while checking out his yard. Shadow's favorite thing to do is dance when it's time to eat. His coat has grown out and is super soft. He loves yogurt and from the pic I think he heard the peanut butter jar open. Looking forward to lots more adventures together. We love him and can't imagine life without him. Thanks to all the volunteers. - the Jessop family
